Ebay item 9/19/08
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Current bid $2,500, 2 bids, 1 day left in auction. 55k miles.
Sellers description:
Jaguar 420 Sedan. The vehicle is in driveable condition. I started this restoration by bringing the mechanicals up to date first. The car needs painted and some body work. There are some rust spots and missing paint in some areas. There is no rot in the uni-body or sub-frames.
The transmission was rebuilt in 2006 and has less than 1000 miles on it. The kick-down linkage could use some adjustment to properly engage the passing gear when accelerating from speed. The engine starts easily and runs well. The carbs are slightly out of sync so a quick tune up would make it run even better. The ignition system was updated to a Malory electronic system. A completely new exhaust system was installed, the car sounds excellent, purrs like a kitten. All brake lines were replaced as well as the rotors on all 4 wheels. All of the brake calipers have been rebuilt. The parking brake cable and pads have also been replaced. Wheel bearings are in working order as well as all suspension components. A new steering isolator was installed as well as subframe isolation mounts front and rear. All belts and hoses have been replaced along with filters and fluids. The radiator has been pressure tested and chemically cleaned. The two 7 gallon gas tanks that reside in the rear wheel wells have been cleaned and coated inside and out to prevent leaks and rust. The original SU fuel pumps have been rebuilt but require some maintenance. I installed a more modern fuel pump temporally to be less of a maintainence issue while restoring the car.
Wheels, tires and an paint job are the only things this car needs to make is really nice. The interior is leather and from the pictures you can see that they are in great shape. There is one very small hole on the driver's side seat. The headliner is original wool and intact. The wood interior trim has an aged appearance and could be sanded and refinished. The speedo does not work, the cable that drives the unit has seized. The wipers do not work as that cable has seized also.
This car would make an excellant winter restoration project and give you a very rare ride. The body style was only produced for 3 years as a transition from the "S" type to the new XJ body style. But like all early Jaguars nearly all of the running gear is interchangeable from model to model so parts are plentiful. The sheet metal is in great shape and that is a good thing because unlike the running gear the body work is rare. There are sources in the UK that continue to supply sheet metal parts but as you can imagine they are expensive. As I mentioned above, some minor body work and new paint would really make this car nice.

Car returns to ebay 8/27/12
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Low-miles-and-even-lower-reserve-/120976210312
Opening bid $1,000 reserve not met, no bids, 6 days left in auction. Car now said to be in Culpeper, Virginia.
Sellers description:
We acquired this car in 2008 just after the previous owner:
Replaced the brake lines, rotors, calipers and parking brake cable
Cleaned out the radiator
Cleaned and coated the two gas tanks
Replaced the exhaust
Installed a Mallory electronic ignition
Rebuilt the two SU fuel pumps, but put in a modern fuel pump as a temporary installation
All of this maintenance has only very few miles on it since the car was not driven after we bought it. The transmission was rebuilt in 2006 with less than 1,000 miles driven. Some spares are included, see pictures of the trunk.
The car starts and runs but has not been driven for four years other than moving it on the lot.
The interior has a patina of age on the leather and wood but is in nice shape for a 45 year old car. The door pockets will need attention. The speedometer cable and windshield wiper cables are seized so neither is working. The wire wheels are very nice and the tire tread is good. There is a spare tire in the trunk with the factory tool holder.
The body was in nice shape until tragedy struck. A number of our vintage Jaguars were parked along the fence pending a customer visit in the morning. A sudden wind storm pushed the hay wagon out of the barn and it rolled down hill into the passenger rear quarter panel of the car. The original photos were taken before the incident but the supplemental photos focus on the damage.
We have lowered our reserve price to reflect the cars current condition.

Current bid US $3,550 reserve not met, 2bids 9 days left in auction buy it now price $12,500. Car now said to be in Hanover, Massachusetts. 61k miles.
Sellers description:
Straight from California is this nice example of a fulling matching number 420 sedan. It is the true 420 in the small saloon class not to be confused with the larger 420G. 1967 was the only year the 420 sedans were made for the U.S. market. It is our favorite Jaguar sedan, because it has the V-12 E-type braking system, the E-type 4.2 engine, the 2 inch S.U. carburetors, the independent rear suspension, the Varamatic power steering unit that does not leak and the over sized radiator so the car will run cool. Over all you get a lot of car for the money. The special features the car boasts in having are the wire wheels, the rear heated window, factory air conditioning and factory tinted glass. The car was fitted from the factory with the automatic transmission, which makes it a pleasure to drive in stop and go traffic. The car runs, drives and stops. It has been sitting for about a year so it wouldn't hurt to go through everything before putting on the road. The interior of the car is very nice and the paint is very nice as well. The tires are in excellent shape. The engine starts up fine and runs smoothly.
