Lot #223112

This 1960 Jaguar Mk IX saloon was originally delivered to New York, was refurbished in 2016 under prior ownership, and is said to have been subsequently displayed at the Keeneland Concours d’ Elegance in Kentucky. Finished in Cotswold Blue and light blue over red leather upholstery, the car is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six linked with a three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes twin SU carburetors, a sunroof, body-color 16″ steel wheels, hubcaps, whitewall tires, disc brakes, power steering, a stainless-steel exhaust system, wood interior trim, bench seats, rear tray tables, and a push-button radio. Initially acquired by the selling dealer in 2011 and reacquired in 2025, this left-hand-drive Mk IX is now offered in Massachusetts with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, 1960 sales documents, manufacturer’s literature, and an Indiana title.

This car is one of 10,009 Mk IX examples produced during the three-year production run. The 2016 refurbishment reportedly involved repairs to the lower sections of the fenders, rocker panels, and quarter panels prior to a respray in two-tone Cotswold Blue and light blue in addition to an overhaul of the exterior trim, glass, and bumpers. Exterior equipment includes a Leaper hood ornament, Lucas lighting, a manually operated sunroof, fender-mounted side mirrors, rear-wheel spats, dual fuel-filler doors, and chrome bumpers with overriders.

Blue-painted 16″ steel wheels wear bright hubcaps and trim rings and are mounted with Firestone Deluxe Champion 6.50″ whitewall tires. The vehicle is equipped with power steering. Braking is provided by discs at each corner, and the car also has a Hill Holder function. The suspension, brakes, and power-steering system are said to have been overhauled during the refurbishment.

The front and rear bench seats have been reupholstered in red leather, and walnut wood trims the pillars, headliner, and door panels. Interior appointments include red carpeting, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, a push-button MW/LW radio, dual gloveboxes, a heater, sun visors, and rear tray tables.

The four-spoke steering wheel fronts a walnut veneer dashboard with centrally mounted Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock as well as a 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges for amperage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 58k miles.

The reupholstered trunk houses a spare wheel, jack, and tools.

The 3.8-liter inline-six was factory equipped with two SU carburetors and was rated at 220 horsepower and 237 lb-ft of torque when new. Reported refurbishment work included repainting the engine bay and overhauling the fuel system, whereas the engine had been rebuilt under prior ownership. A stainless-steel exhaust system is fitted. The batteries were replaced in November 2025.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Borg-Warner three-speed automatic transmission. The seller tells us that the transmission was rebuilt under previous ownership. Undercoating has been applied to the vehicle’s underside.

February 1960 sales paperwork indicates that the car cost a total of $6,112.50 and also that the Long Island–based original owner received a credit of $2,812.50 by trading in a 1953 Aston Martin coupe. Other accompanying documentation from decades ago includes manufacturer’s literature, service records, registration slips, and tax receipts, as arranged in the framed presentation seen above and pictured up close in the gallery.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory colors, identification numbers, and a build date of December 2, 1959, along with distribution via New York.

The vehicle’s Indiana title notes “Correction” under the Title Type field.
