This 1959 Jaguar Mk IX saloon was refurbished prior to being purchased by its current owner in 2019. Finished in black over beige leather, the car is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six fitted with dual SU carburetors. Equipment includes a three-speed automatic transmission, power rack-and-pinion steering, independent front suspension, 16″ steel wheels, hubcaps, and four-wheel disc brakes along with Lucas driving lamps, a sunroof, bench seats, rear-seat tray tables, and a Radiomobile AM radio. This left-hand-drive Mk IX is now offered in California by the seller on behalf of its current owner with a picnic basket, tire-changing tools, and a clean Montana title in the name of the owner’s LLC.
This example was refinished in black under previous ownership. Exterior details include a leaper hood ornament, Lucas driving lamps, fender-mounted side mirrors, a manually operated sunroof, rear fender spats, and body-side moldings. Both chrome bumpers are fitted with overriders, and the rear wraps around.
Black-painted 16″ steel wheels with bright hubcaps and trim rings are mounted with Coker Classic tires. Independent front suspension is composed of unequal-length control arms, torsion bars, and telescopic shocks, while a live axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs and telescopic shocks is utilized out back. The rack-and-pinion steering is power assisted, as are the Dunlop four-wheel disc brakes.
Bench seating surfaces upholstered in beige leather are complemented by color-coordinated vinyl door panels and carpeting, the latter of which is overlaid with black carpeted mats. Interior appointments include a dash-mounted rearview mirror, door-panel map pockets, front and rear fold-down armrests, an under-dash passenger-side shelf, and a Radiomobile push-button AM radio. An auxiliary audio adapter is installed inside the locking glovebox, and the upholstered trunk houses a covered spare, a fire extinguisher, and a woven picnic basket with accoutrements.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames a walnut veneer dashboard with centrally mounted Smiths instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level as well as a Lucas ammeter. The five-digit odometer shows 45k miles, approximately 200 of which were driven under current ownership.
The rear bench seat faces a walnut wood panel housing a set of folding tray tables and a Smiths clock.
The 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six was factory equipped with two SU HD6 carburetors and rated at 220 horsepower and 237 lb-ft of torque when new. The oil was changed and the battery was replaced in preparation for the sale.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Borg-Warner three-speed automatic transmission.
