Auction description:
An original Australian delivery Mark IX, this superb example spent some time in Queensland before coming south to Victoria with Cyril Baxter, a renowned specialist of for the Big Cats, and he restored the vehicle in the early 1990s. Nicknamed "Lofty", the Jaguar is stunning to look at with wire wheels and whitewall tyres and has been featured in the Jaguar Car Clubs Concours Catalouge. Regular use has ensured the Mark IX has been maintained to an exacting standard and upgrades to ensure the vehicle is always reliable include the fitting of an alternator. The car drives beautifully and the owners, who have cherished the Jaguar for the past twelve years, doubt there is a finer example in Victoria. Features of note include air conditioning, radio cassette and bucket seats and the vehicle has been recently serviced, with an oil change etc. To be sold registered in Victoria with a current Victorian roadworthy certificates supplied after sale.

Car now offered at:

Seller's description:

1959 Jaguar MKIX 3.8 Automatic

This impressive matching numbers Jaguar MKIX 3.8 Automatic was manufactured on the 31st August 1959 and finished in Claret over Maroon with Grey leather upholstery. On leaving the factory the Jaguar was shipped out to Australia where the car remained for 46 years. The Jaguar for many years resided in Adelaide being used as a luxury limousine, often used for the occasional wedding and fitted with air-conditioning for the convenience of those being chauffeur driven in this lovely old car.

The Jaguar was subject of a major 1990's restoration when the car was painted all Black and the upholstery completely re-trimmed in beautiful Red leather. All the woodwork was renewed, a major program of work carried out to the engine bay and braking system, and the car converted onto chrome wire wheels, not something often seen on the MKIX model. In 2005 the MKIX was purchased by its first UK owner who imported the car from Australia. The car was then taken to a UK restoration specialist full professional lower body restoration. This included removal all of four doors, completely rebuilding them and then renovating the sills, valances and front and rear wings. Major areas were leaded as opposed to filler and the car finished to a very high standard.

Having covered a few hundred miles between 2005 - 2012 and MOT tested annually, the Jaguar was then stored until 2016. The car was then subject to major suspension work, a rebuilt steering box and then an engine rebuild and just a few hundred miles have been completed since. Further work included a new gearbox sump gasket and various new rubbers. In 2022 the cars first UK owner sold the Jaguar and it has since spent a couple of years in Cornwall. Completing its external finish back to factory, the last owner spent £4000 having the top half of the car re-painted and various brightwork has also been renewed. The Jaguar has since had professional dry storage and has covered many miles across the Cornish countryside in two enjoyable years of ownership.

On arrival with us in Yorkshire we have inspected the car in our workshops and can report it to be driving beautifully. On the road its incredibly impressive, the 3.8 engine is very smooth holding excellent oil pressure and it pulls tremendously well. The automatic gearbox changes very smoothly and the power steering works perfectly, its very light and responsive. The MKIX cruises very well indeed, it feels relaxed, comfortable and offers great confidence on the road. The upholstery whilst re-trimmed feels nicely aged with an original feel and the rare individual front seats are a lovely feature. 509 XUC is a strong car, after its recent paintwork it presents very well and importantly it is structurally excellent. This is a fantastic car to get into and enjoy on the open road, it feels absolutely right on the road and won't fail to impress.
