This 1948 Jaguar Mark IV is a left-hand-drive Drophead Coupé that spent time in Canada before it was purchased by the seller in 1983. The car is finished in burgundy over red leather upholstery, and power comes from a 3.5-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes twin SU carburetors, mechanically actuated four-wheel drum brakes, 18″ painted wire wheels, a beige three-position soft top with landau bars, fog lamps, rear-hinged doors, trafficators, front bucket seats, and wood interior trim. Service performed in preparation for the sale included rebuilding the carburetors, cleaning the fuel tank, and installing replacement spark plugs. This Mark IV is now offered with literature, service records, and a Massachusetts title in the seller’s wife’s name.

The 3.5-liter model was initially produced by SS Cars between 1938 and 1940 before being reintroduced after the company’s name change to Jaguar as part of the Mark IV range. This example’s drophead coupe bodywork is said to have been previously finished in black, and it underwent a color change to burgundy under previous ownership. Equipment includes Lucas tri-bar headlights, bumper-mounted fog lamps, a “leaper” hood ornament, fender-mounted side mirrors, a tilt-out windshield, rear-hinged doors, trafficators, and a beige three-position convertible top with landau bars. Areas of paint loss and other imperfections in the finish can be seen.

Body-color 18” wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs, and they are mounted with 5.25/5.50–18″ Garfield bias-ply whitewall tires. A spare is secured in the rear compartment under the trunk. Stopping is handled by mechanically actuated drum brakes.

The left-hand-drive cabin features red pleated leather over front bucket seats and a rear bench, with matching upholstery over the door panels and rear side panels. The wood dash and the door panels were fitted with replacement veneers under the seller’s ownership, and red carpets were also installed. Additional features include roll-up windows, dual gloveboxes, dual dash-mounted ashtrays, a Panasonic cassette stereo, and a fold-down rear armrest.

The four-spoke steering wheel is situated ahead of Smiths instrumentation including a reverse-sweep 5k-rpm tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, and gauges for amperage, fuel level, oil pressure, and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 57k miles, approximately 20k of which were added under current ownership.

The 3.5-liter inline-six features seven main bearings, overhead valves, and twin SU carburetors and was factory rated at 125 horsepower. An August 2026 service included the installation of replacement spark plugs as well as a rebuild of the carburetors.

The four-speed manual transmission features synchromesh on its top three gears, and it was rebuilt under the seller’s ownership. The fuel tank was drained in August 2026. The suspension incorporates solid axles, semi-elliptical leaf springs, and hydraulic shock absorbers at the front and rear. The seller notes a leak from the transmission, and corrosion on the underside can be seen in the gallery.

A set of factory tools accompanies the sale.

The Massachusetts title is listed as a duplicate.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
