Lot #126835

This 1958 Jaguar MK VIII is finished in pearl gray over gray leather upholstery and is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes 16″ steel wheels, a sunroof, rear wheel spats, driving lights, a driver’s mirror, dual locking fuel filler doors, front bucket seats, wood interior trim, Smiths instrumentation, and folding rear picnic tables. The car was refurbished under prior ownership and was acquired by the current owner in December 2016. This MK VIII is now offered on dealer consignment with an operator’s handbook, an air pump, a tool kit, and a clean Colorado title in the owner’s name.

The car is finished in pearl gray and was repainted following sheet metal repairs during the aforementioned refurbishment. Exterior details include a manually operated sunroof, chrome-finished bumpers with overriders, a Leaper hood ornament, Lucas driving lights, rear wheel spats, bright window trim, and twin exhaust outlets. A rusted paint chip is visible on the driver-side marker light pod, and a paint blemish on the hood is shown up close in the gallery below.

Body-color 16″ steel wheels wear bright beauty rings and Jaguar-branded hubcaps and are mounted with 6.0-series Michelin Pilot X tires. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by drums at all four corners.

The interior houses front bucket seats and a rear bench re-trimmed in gray leather upholstery and joined by wood accents that were reportedly refinished during the refurbishment. Jaguar-branded floor mats line the footwells, and appointments include a dash-mounted rearview mirror, door storage pockets, a passenger grab handle, a locking glove compartment, a heater, and folding rear picnic tables.

The four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation consisting of a reverse-sweep tachometer with an inset clock, a 120-mph speedometer, and auxiliary readouts for coolant temperature, fuel level, and an ammeter. The five-digit odometer shows 89k miles, approximately 2k of which have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 3.4-liter inline-six features dual SU carburetors and was factory-rated at 210 horsepower. The car was also equipped from the factory with twin fuel tanks, and the battery is said to have been replaced in 2022.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. Corrosion is visible on the underside, and the seller notes rust on the inner side of the left rocker molding as well as on the center body mount.

An operating, maintenance, and service handbook is included in the sale along with an air pump and a tool kit.

The chassis number is listed on the Colorado title, though the “P” is transposed for a “9”.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
