Ebay item 9/13/09
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-MK-8-Saloon-1958-Jaguar-Mark-VIII-Mark-8-Saloon-L ...
Opening bid $4,000, no bids yet 6 days left in auction. Buy it now price $8,550.
Sellers descriiption:
This is a barn find Jaguar Mark 8 Saloon. It is a remarkably complete and rust free car but it is a non-running car. It has been part of the LeMay collction for many many years and was not used by the collection.
The exterior is very original with original paint, trim and chrome. It has never been restored in any way and the paint and trim are indicative of this. The exterior (like the rest of the car) is very complete with little missing at all. The obvious missing items are the absense of the rear fender skirts. They are not in the trunk and are not with the car. Aside from these, I do not believe any other irems are missing. There are no major signs of rust or rust repair as this car has been a Western Washington State car for most (if not all) of its life.
The interior is completely original and in decent shape. The leather on the seats is nice original with good patina. The wood is all very good with original finish still in place. The instruments aren trim pieces are all correct and appear decent. The roof liner is worn (see pics). Also, the carpets are worn originals as well. The door panels are original and fairly decent. Both doors have storage compartments (correct from the factory) and still contain the correct tools and pump lubricator. A couple of tools are missing but the kit is almost complete and original (NO reproductions at all). The glass is original and good throughout. The floors are very solid with no rust or repairs either.
The engine is the original six cylinider motor and turns. I did not make it run. All of the components are in place as well. The automatic transmission is in place as well and is also original to the car.
The trunk is clean and has a correct spare with jack tools as well. The underside is original and also shows the rust-free history of this car.
Just to be clear, this is being sold as a non-running restorable car. It is very complete and a very stately car. It could be driven and enjoyed with a mechanical refurbishment but is a far cry from being show-ready. The car is currently stored at the Lemay property in Tacoma Washington and will be there until the new buyer is ready to ship it out. Free storage for three weeks following the conclusion of this auction.
The technical information is as follows:
Chassis: NA 1916
Body: A005832
Engine: P781296BW
Auto Transmission: 6394-8

I purchased this car from a fella in Virginia, who purchased it by Auction from Lemay Car Museum in Washington State.
I am now in deep, very deep, in the restoration of this car.

Mike,
Your restoration has brought this up to museum standards.
More beautiful than original.
Thanks for bringing it to Sunday's show.
