Sellers description:
We're pleased to offer an extremely rare and well documented 1966 Jaguar 3.8 s Mark 2. Shipped from England to California in 1981 to the 2nd owner who cared for this beautiful car until 2013. Car went through extensive restoration in 1996 including but not limited to Engine rebuild, Braking system, new Clutch, Bushings, Ignition System, and Rewiring. Following mechanical restoration, interior was stripped and redone in connelly leather, wood sanded and resealed, new headliner and carpet. Jags paint was stripped of paint using no bondo to repair minor defects. Right hand drive, 4 Speed manual with electronic overdrive. Glides effortlessly on the freeway- an absolute pleasure to drive. No rust with all body panels lining up quite well. Paint shows a few chips from wear over the last 18 years, but shows nicely. Factory original owners manual as well as original registration from March of 1966. An excellent example with just over 66,000 original miles.

This 1966 Jaguar S-Type is a right-hand-drive example that was delivered new in Oxford, England, and imported into the US in 1981. It then underwent a two-year refurbishment that concluded in 1997. The car is finished in gray and black over tan leather and powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Equipment includes 15″steel wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, dual SU carburetors, driving lights, dual exhaust outlets, wood interior trim, and a JVC stereo. The car was acquired by the seller in 2014 and subsequent service reportedly consisted of rebuilding the carburetors and replacing the clutch master cylinder, brake components, steering column bushings, left fuel pump, starter solenoid, coolant hoses, spark plugs, ignition wires, and front shocks, springs, and bushings. This S-Type is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, operating and service manuals, two sets of keys, spare parts, service records, and New York registration in the seller’s name.
Originally black, the car was repainted in gray and black in 1997 following rust repair and dent removal. Additional exterior details include a Jaguar Leaper hood ornament, a power antenna, driving lights, fender-mounted side mirrors, chrome bumpers, polished dual exhaust outlets, and dual fuel fillers with lockable caps. The seller notes bubbling paint around the front signals. The badges on the badge bar are not included in the sale.
Black 15″ steel wheels wear polished hub caps and are mounted with 185-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires with 2010 production codes. A matching spare is stored in the trunk. The car is equipped with power steering and an independent rear suspension, and braking is handled by servo-assisted discs at all four corners. Service during current ownership reportedly included replacing brake-system wear items as well as the front shocks, springs, and bushings.
The right-hand-drive cabin was refreshed in 1996 with replacement tan leather seat upholstery and color-coordinated headliner and carpets as well as refurbished wood trim. Appointments include a heater, three-point front seatbelts, and a JVC CD player in the glove compartment. The steering column bushings were replaced during current ownership. The Motorola radio in the center stack intermittently works.
Smiths instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer, an inset analog clock, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 76k miles, approximately 10k of which were added during current ownership. The speedometer needle sticks occasionally, and the total mileage is unknown.
The 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six is equipped with dual SU carburetors and was factory rated at 220 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque. The seller states that the engine was overhauled in 1997 and that work under their ownership included rebuilding the carburetors and rebuilding the left fuel pump, starter solenoid, coolant hoses, spark plugs, and ignition wires.
The four-speed manual gearbox is equipped with a Laycock de Normanville overdrive. The clutch master cylinder was reportedly replaced during current ownership. Photos of corrosion on the underside are provided in the gallery.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate lists initial delivery to Jaguar House in Oxford. It also lists the factory colors, equipment, serial numbers, and a production date of December 24, 1965. Operating and service manuals, two sets of keys, spare parts, and service records will also accompany the car.
The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a state that does not require them for for vehicles of its age. It is being sold on its New York registration.
