Auction description:
1965 Jaguar Mk2 3.8-Litre Saloon
Collectors' Motor Cars & Automobilia, Bonhams (28th February 2005)
Overview
This restored right-hand drive example adds the convenience of factory-fitted power steering to the ultimate - 3.8-litre, manual/overdrive - Mk2 specification. The car was originally despatched to South Africa in ‘CKD’ (Completely Knocked Down) form and assembled there, its first owner being Mr F P Van Der Merwe in Cape Town. It remained in South Africa until purchased by the vendor, who embarked on an extensive three-year restoration, since when a mere 1,200-or-so miles have been covered. Refurbishment undertaken included a painstaking bare-metal re-spray, extensive Waxoyling of body/chassis cavities and reconditioning of interior woodwork, plus new leather upholstery and new carpets throughout. The (non-original) engine was stripped and reconditioned, and the entire transmission inspected and found to be in good order, notwithstanding the customary whine in first gear! Although restored to generally original specification, the car incorporates up-grades consisting of an electric cooling fan, Kenwood 6-CD stereo system and a unique, custom-made steering wheel. Finished in blue with biscuit leather interior, the vehicle is presented in first class cosmetic condition throughout and offered complete with original tool kit, restoration invoices, Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, MoT to October 2005, current road fund licence and Swansea V5 registration document.
