Sellers description:
A friend bought this 1948 Jaguar drophead coupe in about 1999 for $40,000. He then spent, according to him, $20,000 to have the engine completely rebuilt in Southampton, New York. He had planned to have the exterior stripped and repainted, but the interior is in fairly good shape. He licensed it and drove it for a year or so and had it stored in his barn.
At some point, some local teenagers broke into the barn and smashed the headlights, running lights, the passenger side window, and made several dents. They also took the original Jaguar emblem. My friend bought new headlights, running lights, and Jaguar emblem which are pictured. He intended to have the car restored, but he got discourged about the project due to the vandalizism and it has been sitting in his barn since 2000. I sugguested he sell it and get it out of his way and he asked me to help. It is a wonderful car, but it is being sold as-is where-is. I put gas in it and attempted to jump start it, but it wouldn't turn over. It was however, running when he put it in the garage. Since I wasn't able to start it, I wasn't able to check any of the mechanical components of the car. Neither he nor I make any representations about its condition or driveability, you have to judge that for yourself. I think it would make a great project for a Jaguar enthusiast or a professional restorer.
