LOT 192
1951 Jaguar Mark V 3.5 Litre Saloon
Well-known in classic Jaguar circles
50 years in the current ownership
Offered at No Reserve
A well-known car in Jaguar club circles, this lovely old Mark V Saloon was evidently delivered to Australia judging from the Brylaw Motors plate under the bonnet and has belonged to the one dedicated owner for an impressive 50 years. Hailing from Albury, NSW our vendor purchased the Jaguar locally in 1973 and proceeded to completely restore it back to original condition, completing the mechanicals and body assembly himself but outsourcing the upholstery and paintwork to professionals. Only minor rust was discovered in the sill panels and repaired and most of the chrome was good, apart from the bumpers and hubcaps which were re-plated.
Back on the road and registered again in September 1975, concessions to modern roads included the addition of indicators and seat belts but the car remains otherwise pleasingly original. Finished in the period colour of Connaught Green, the seats were upholstered in tan vinyl with matching brown carpeting throughout, while the tool tray – always an impressive feature on these early Jaguar saloons – is complete.
Last registered in September 2017, the Jaguar has spent the last five years in storage and will require some mechanical recommissioning before use but has been started periodically and does run and drive. Almost five decades on, the restoration is starting to show its age, with the rubbers in need of replacing and the paint flat but the interior remains in lovely condition, with a lovely patina. Noteworthy features include the sunshine roof and rear spats and the car comes with large quantity of spare parts, including additional body parts, lamps, windows, radiator and grilles, six spare wheels, a gearbox and three cylinder heads. Currently unregistered and showing 9,651 miles on the clock, the Jaguar will be sold with No Reserve and the car comes with original books including the Operating Manual, Service Manual and Spare Parts Catalogue.
