Private Party or Dealer: Dealer

This 1948 Jaguar Mark IV is a right-hand-drive Drophead Coupe that was manufactured in February 1948 and acquired by the selling dealer in 2017 from its previous owner, who reportedly had owned it since 1981 in Santa Barbara, California. The car was refurbished under previous ownership, and it received a color change to silver with a replacement black soft top over a reupholstered black interior. Power is provided by a 3.5-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Service in the mid-2000s included replacement of seals and gaskets within the drivetrain, while an inspection, replacement of the battery, a carburetor repair, and an oil and filter change were performed in 2018. This Mark IV Drophead Coupe is offered by the selling dealer with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, a partial tool kit, service records since 1981, a shop manual, and a clean California title.

The car received a color change under prior ownership from Lavender Grey to silver with red pinstriping, and it features a replacement black soft top as well as a chrome grille, bumpers with overriders, and headlight buckets. The doors were rebuilt in the 1990s as part of the refurbishment. The selling dealer notes chips, cracking, and other blemishes in the finish.

Chrome wire 18” wheels feature two-eared Jaguar-branded knock-off spinners and are wrapped in Firestone tires. The suspension is equipped with semi-elliptic leaf springs on rigid axles in the front and rear.

The cabin has been reupholstered in black vinyl, which has replaced the original red and is accented by a wood dashboard and upper door panels. The trunk lid tool kit is missing some of its factory-equipped items as shown in the gallery.

Instrumentation consists of a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer with an integrated clock, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 51k miles; total mileage is unknown. The selling dealer has provided videos of the left and right trafficators in operation.

The 3.5-liter inline-six was factory rated at 125 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque when new. Service performed by the selling dealer in 2018 included repairs to the starting carburetor connections, installation of a replacement battery, and completion of an oil and filter change.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. Gaskets and seals in the engine, transmission, and differential were replaced in 2007.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate lists the factory colors as well as the original chassis, engine, and body numbers.

A service manual and records from 1981 onward are also included in the sale.

Replacement 3.5-Liter Inline-Six

Four-Speed Manual Transmission

Repainted Silver

Black Soft Top

Black Vinyl Upholstery

18" Chrome Wire-Spoke Wheels

Trafficators

Lot #182378

This 1948 Jaguar Mark IV is a right-hand-drive Drophead Coupe that was refurbished in the 1990s and acquired by the seller after being listed on BaT in April 2020. It is finished in silver over a black interior, and power is provided by a replacement 3.5-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes 18″ wire-spoke wheels, a black soft top, rear-hinged doors, trafficators, fog lamps, and wood trim. This Mark IV Drophead Coupe is offered with a clean California title listing it as a 1947 model.

Finished from the factory in Lavender Grey, the car was repainted silver with red pinstriping under prior ownership. It features a replacement black soft top as well as rear-hinged doors, a tilt-out windshield, Lucas tri-bar headlights with mesh guards, bumper-mounted fog lamps, fender-mounted side mirrors, trafficators, and a “leaper” hood ornament. The doors were rebuilt as part of the refurbishment in the 1990s. There are chips, cracks, and other blemishes in the finish.

Chrome wire 18” wheels feature two-eared Jaguar-branded knock-off spinners and are wrapped in Firestone tires. The suspension is equipped with semi-elliptic leaf springs on rigid axles in the front and rear.

The cabin was reupholstered in black vinyl, which is accented by a wood dashboard and upper door panels. The trunk lid tool kit is missing some components.

The four-spoke steering wheel is situated on the right-hand side ahead of Smiths instrumentation, including a reverse-sweep 5k-rpm tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, and ancillary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 52k miles, and total mileage is unknown.

The replacement 3.5-liter inline-six was installed some time ago and was factory rated at 125 horsepower. The head gasket, intake manifold gaskets, and water pump bearings were replaced in December 2024.

Power is delivered to rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.

The car is registered as Planned Non-Operation in the state of California.
