Car to be at auction 8/14
www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2014-08-30/cars/1947-jaguar-mk-iv.aspx

Auction description:
August 30, 2014 auction
1947 Jaguar Mk IV (3½ litre)
Registration FWS 33
Chassis Number 612786
Engine Number 82258
Odometer reading 34,163 miles
Estimate £35,000 - £42,000

We are delighted to offer this 1947 Jaguar Mk IV 3½ litre, which is surely one of the most elegant of sporting Jaguars offered in the post war era.
It is believed that this Jaguar Mk IV started life in Scotland and has also spent time in Northern Ireland and Italy. Residing within the history file is an Italian registration document along with an 'ASI' (Automotoclub Storico Italiano) certificate, stating the technical characteristics and correctness of the car, an old UK green log book, Northern Ireland log book and old UK MoT test certificates. There is also a useful and extensive workshop manual.

The Jaguar appears to be in generally original condition, particularly the interior with its untouched and nicely patinated leather. The coachwork is unblemished with no apparent dents or imperfections. The vinyl roof compliments the coachwork and gives this Jaguar a rather distinguished look. The engine compartment is very clean and smart which certainly gives the impression of a well cared for and loved car. On starting the engine, there is no evidence of any smoking and the car soon settles into a smooth idle. The Jaguar pulls away easily and gear changes are a pleasure. Further benefits include a steel sunroof and the opening windscreen, both of which are functional.

Having spent several years in heated dry storage, the car has recently been re-commissioned with electrical and mechanical works being carried out to improve reliability. Although MoT exempt, we are assured that this UK registered Jaguar Mk IV will arrive at the sale with a fresh MoT test certificate and its Historic tax, valid until the end of January 2015.

It cannot be overstated on how this car looks in the flesh rather than just by the photographs, in particular the interior, which is very inviting. This car ticks all the boxes and with that in mind, the lucky new owner may drive the Jaguar away from the sale in style.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
