This 1963 Jaguar Mk II is a right-hand-drive sedan that was originally delivered to New Zealand, where it reportedly remained until August 2004, when it was imported to the United States. Finished in red over black leather, the car is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six paired with an XJ6-sourced synchronized four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Additional features include electronic ignition, an aluminum radiator with an electric fan, chrome-finished wire wheels, disc brakes, and a Blaupunkt cassette stereo. The engine reportedly was rebuilt in 1985, the transmission was installed in 1987, and the exterior was refinished in 1994. The seller acquired the car in January 2019 and has since had the front subframe reworked, the cylinder head overhauled, and the exhaust system replaced. This Mark II is now offered at no reserve in Utah with service records dating back to the 1980s, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.
The seller states that in 1994 the exterior was media-blasted, bodywork was performed, and the car was refinished in red. The chrome-finished bumpers have been replaced, and LED Cibie headlights have been fitted. The paintwork and exterior trim are shown up close in the gallery below, which contains some photos from August 2019.
Chrome-finished wire wheels are mounted with two-ear Jaguar knockoffs and Vredestein tires, and the wheels reportedly were installed in 1994. The car is equipped with four-wheel disc brakes, and the front chassis was serviced in 2020.
The interior has been changed from red to black and features individual front bucket seats and a rear bench seat with an armrest. A Blaupunkt Verona stereo has been installed along with speakers in the forward kick panels, and the headliner has been replaced. The seller notes that the rear tray tables do not stay up and the clock as well as the trunk light are inoperable.
A Moto-Lita steering wheel sits ahead of a burl wood dashboard that was been refinished. Factory Smiths instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows just under 65k miles, approximately 600 of which have been added by the seller. Records reportedly indicate that the odometer has rolled over.
The 3.8-liter inline-six is said to have been rebuilt in April 1985, with approximately 50k miles added since that time. A PerTronix electronic ignition module, a 12-volt alternator, and an aluminum radiator with an electric fan have been installed. In 2020 a stainless-steel exhaust was installed, the carburetor and choke were repaired, and the cylinder head was rebuilt.
The cylinder-head stamping reads LC4370-8 and matches the number shown on the JHT certificate as well as the stamping on the data plate affixed to the car.
A synchronized four-speed manual transmission with an overdrive unit is said to have been sourced from an XJ6 and installed in 1987. The seller notes corrosion on the frame.
Records are said to date back to the 1980s, and nearly $19k in service records from British Automotive Repair of Scottsdale, Arizona since 2019 are included. The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate indicates a build date of October 1962, with subsequent dispatch to Auckland, New Zealand. The factory color scheme and engine number are also provided.
