Car at auction 9/24

www.carandclassic.com/auctions/1961-jaguar-mk2-38-nra7mg

Auction description:

1961 Jaguar MK2 3.8

Colour Red

Odometer 25,387 Miles

Engine size3800

Seller TypePrivate

Town Gillingham

County Kent

Country United Kingdom

Rare example with manual transmission and overdrive

Imported from Zimbabwe in 2000

Full reconditioning undertaken upon import

This particular 1961 example was imported from Zimbabwe on the turn of the millennium, and has been comprehensively reconditioned for returning to the road - and is a particularly rare beast, with the overdrive-adjoined manual transmission and the very desirable 3.8L six-pot engine.

Couple that up with the car's handsome colour scheme, and this vehicle is a real treat. A little bit of work is required before it hits the road proper, but once that's done? You've got the perfect companion to roam the British network with all of the style of Morse.

History and Paperwork

Registered in 1961

Imported from Zimbabwe in 2000

Full reconditioning upon import

Car has been kept in storage for 4 years

MOT exempt and last tested in 2019

Currently indicates 25,387 miles on a five-figure odometer

Less than 200 miles driven since 2009, according to the MOT history

Service history includes incomplete paperwork, some invoices, a partially filled service record book

The Condition

Bodywork in generally fine order

Some bubbles under the paintwork, though these don't detract much from the car

No sign of any significant dents or dings - though there are a few scratches here and there

Brightwork carries light patina

Glasswork and lenses in good order

Underside carries light signs of corrosion

Interior is nicely presented, representing low mileage since restoration

Seats are free of any rips or tears

Very gentle wear to the leather

Veneers are in good overall order

Carpets are slightly tired

All instruments are clear and legible

The Mechanics

3.8L six-cylinder powerplant

Manual transmission with 4 gears plus overdrive

Engine bay looks in good overall condition

Clutch needs bleeding and sticks occasionally

The vendor notes that it's currently experiencing a fuel leak

We're informed otherwise that the car is very drivable

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
