Car was at auction 7/09
www.classicauctions.co.uk/lotdetail.php

Auction description:
Lot : 75
1961 Jaguar Mk II 3.8 Litre
SOLD for £8800
Registration No: YSJ 393
Chassis No: 203114DN
Engine No: LB113-8
Colour: Cardinal Red
Trim Colour: Grey
MOT: Oct 2009

Reportedly entering the current ownership in March 2002 as a part completed restoration project that had already had attention paid to its "chassis, running gear, sills, brakes and bodywork", this particular example is since understood to have benefited from a thorough engine overhaul (reground crankshaft, rebored block, new pistons, fresh bearings and unleaded cylinder head conversion etc) and refurbished four-speed manual plus overdrive gearbox. Stripped of all its internal and external fittings, the bodywork was further improved prior to being resprayed in Cardinal Red. Riding on new stainless steel wire wheels, the Jaguar also sports a new headlining, sundry rechromed parts, power steering and re-polished woodwork. Retaining its original grey leather upholstery, the saloon is said to have covered approximately 200 miles on its refreshed engine but to ideally require more fettling and detailing (particularly to the interior). An appealing proposition, this 3.8 litre MKII is offered for sale with numerous restoration photos, Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate and current MOT valid until October 2009.

Lot : 68
1961 Jaguar Mk II 3.8 Litre
NOT SOLD
Registration No: YSJ 393
Chassis No: 203114DN
Engine No: LB113-8
CC: 3781
Colour: Red
Trim Colour: Beige
MOT:Nov 2010
Finished in red with beige leather upholstery, this particular example is variously described by the vendor as being in "very good" (engine, four-speed manual plus overdrive gearbox, bodywork, paintwork), "good" (electrical equipment) or "excellent" (interior trim) condition. Reportedly supplied new to an Edinburgh customer in January 1961, `YSJ 393' is further understood to have benefited from an extensive restoration programme over the last several years. Refurbished and resprayed the bodywork plays host to fresh door seals and much new chromework. Mechanically, the Jaguar has been treated to an engine overhaul (reground crankshaft, rebore, unleaded cylinder head conversion, new pistons and bearings etc) and rejuvenated gearbox not to mention the fitment of electric power steering. `Poly Bush' suspension bushes throughout and fresh rear springs / dampers. Riding on new wire wheels and sporting a replacement exhaust system (stainless silencers / rear pipes), the handsome saloon also boasts a renovated interior incorporating a new boot mat, carpets and trim panels where necessary. An appealing proposition, this 3.8 litre MKII is offered for sale with assorted restoration photos, Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate and current MOT valid until November 2010.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
