Previous owner of some 2+ decades
Having recently been purchased from an older gentleman who had owned the car for about 21 or so years, this Jaguar has been lovingly tended to by the vendor as a little project to ensure road safety and reliability, having a full brake overhaul and a new clutch master cylinder fitted. There is no records of the car ever being restored, although it is likely it has had a fresh coat of paint in its life, the car does feel very original and cared for. A handful of 30+ year old tax discs are sill present, the original handbooks in its original wallet and the V5 showing 5 previous keepers.
A box full of spares including a new fuel pump, various seals and accessories also comes with the car.
The Interior
Extremely comfortable
Many original features
The interior, given its age was hard to fault, with the usual wear areas, the drivers seat bolster being the worst of it, other areas showing some normal wear but nothing out of the ordinary. The dashboard had taken some sun damage to the top and had lost its shine and the Jaguar badge in the steering wheel centre had cracked, all age related and not sign of abuse or abnormal wear.
The seats were as you can imagine, hugely comfortable, well sprung and absorbing and the large dials easy to ready and all functional. The centre console is a delight, adorned with plenty of switches and gauges makes it feel rather exciting, with all the information you need to keep a close eye on the engines performance and finished with a push-to-start button.
Pleasingly, the headlining was in top notch order with no sags, the carpets all well fitted and seemingly for the most part un-damaged and even better the original wireless remained, giving an all-round original finish, just cared for, loved and used.
The Exterior
Good, solid brightwork
Classic & elegant
We thought this colour looked fabulous and suited the car very well, with copious amounts of chrome adorning all sides and lovely straight panels too. The paint finish was really good, and evidently was done to a high standard when applied, although now it is showing its age in areas and could use a good polish to bring out its lustre. There as you can see in the images, areas of corrosion under the paint at the extremities of some of the panels and a few little marks, but the corrosion is from what we could tell, just skin-deep and nothing appeared remotely structural. It could be that the new owner simply enjoyed the car as it is complete with imperfections.
The door handles operated perfectly with a satisfying clunk and sealed tightly when closed, the boot too stayed up itself, with copious amounts of space.
The exterior chrome trims and bumpers were in very nice nick with minimal signs of corrosion or damage. All of these were properly fitted and straight with just the odd mark here and there.
The car wore its blemishes with pride, nothing had been covered or patched making it very honest, and we liked this and thought it made for a very useable car just the way it is, and could, in future, quite easily be made very nice indeed.
The Mechanics
Good tyres all round
Brake overhaul
Solid and tidy under bonnet
New clutch master cylinder
Collection of spares
All round its evident this car is cared for. Under the bonnet is ‘oily rag’ clean with no aftermarket parts ruining the originality of the car. Looking under the car its evident the car has been looked after, being very clean and straight. There is a cation of undersea applied but this is just ‘enough’ to fend off moisture and not so much as to be possibly covering up anything suspicious. The stainless exhaust was a fabulous twin pipe with a ‘slash’ cut tip and this sounded truly superb with a soft burble on idle and a meaty rasp when out on the road and looking underneath it was in perfect condition all along.
The car started literally on the button and didn’t emit any more initial startup smoke that what one might expect. The underside of the engine and transmission were leak free with the usual slight dampness but nothing untoward.
In the engine bay things were pretty much as you would expect, nice and tidy, the chassis looked solid and the shiny air intake looks purposeful and contrasted well agains the aluminium cam covers. We were informed the windscreen wipers currently don’t work, the reason is unknown but no doubt a relatively easy fix for a home mechanic.
Seeing the car run, drive and stop lead us to believe this Jaguar is very well sorted and maintained, and short of usual regular maintenance that any classic needs this will be a nice useable car for the new owner.
