Current bid $8,100 reserve not met, 5 bids 6 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
This is a very original low mileage Jaguar Mark 1 sedan with the 3.4 litre engine and 4-speed Moss transmission with the rare "shaved gear" factory option. It also has the Laycock de Normanville overdrive, disk brakes and wire wheels. This is a completely original numbers-matching car. The exterior color is Carmine Red and the interior is black.

I purchased the car from the family of the second owner. I have attempted to maintain the originality of the car in any repairs I have done. The car has never been disassembled. The engine and transmission have never been removed from the car. The majority of the paint is original. The paint is quite good overall. All the chrome is original and in nice condition. The car retains its original leather seats, original Wilton wool carpets, interior door and trim panels, headliner and wood trim. There is some minor wear to the driver's seat cushion. The gauges are original and excellent. The car retains its original body-colored Carmine Red wire wheels. It has the original jack with the leather mounting strap.

The spare tire is the original Dunlop Road Speed 640-15 wide whitewall. The other 4 tires are new Coker Classic P-195R15 wide whitewall radials with new radial tubes. The car features the original Lucas spring-base wing mirrors (not the poor quality non-sprung repros available today).

The wipers are the original Trico made in England. The headlamps are original Lucas 700 with correct bulbs. The exhaust system was replaced 2 years ago with original Jaguar factory mufflers and exhaust pipes.

The rubber door seals are original and in very good condition. All lenses are original and excellent. All glass is original and excellent. The car also has a rare accessory driver's ash receiver which matches the style of the rear ashtrays.

The car had very little rust when I acquired it. I replaced the 4 jack points and the driver's rocker panel and welded in a small panel at the rear bottom corner of the driver's side front fender. All of the undercarriage repair items are Martin Robey British top quality. The rear spring hangers were ok but I reinforced them when installing the jack points. The front crows feet are solid. The front crossmember which supports the bumper brackets has some rust on the outer corners, but I judged it as ok as-is. The rest of the undercarriage, floors, inner fenders, spare tire area, boot interior and rear bumper mounts are excellent.

Here is the work I have done, attempting to maintain the originality and original patina of the car: new front suspension mounts, engine mounts, engine rear stabilizer, transmission mount, front suspension bushings and panhard rod bushings. New 3.4 litre plastic grill insert, replacement horn, replacement trunk mat, all heater and radiator hoses. I installed a period-correct positive ground Stromberg AM radio. The antenna is a replacement. I repainted the engine head in the correct egg shell color. The engine compartment is correct and excellent. The battery cables are the correct Lucas helmet style.

The hydraulics are completely rebuilt and refurbished: brake cylinders, brake master cylinder, clutch master and slave cylinders. All new correct hoses.

When I rebuilt the hydraulics I utilized DOT 4 silicone fluid as in all my other cars. I removed the vacuum booster from the system due to the silicone brake fluid. The booster comes with the car. The brakes work fine without it and now there is no chance of water corrosion in the hydraulic system.

The flaws in the car are: cracks in steering wheel plastic, tiny dings across the grill vanes, a worn-through spot on the red paint on the top (1-1/6" long), some bubbles starting to show at the bottom corners of the passenger front door (the inside of the doors have been cleaned and sealed with POR paint). There are a few minor paint chips on the rear spat edges. There is some minor checking in the paint at the rear edges of the roof where it meets the top of the boot.

The car starts, runs, drives and shifts beautifully. The overdrive works perfectly. There are typical oil leaks under the engine but nothing excessive. The suspension is very tight and steering and cornering are excellent. The clutch is fine. The springs and shocks are fine. The gearbox is the factory optional shaved gears with short positive throw and shifting.

If you want a truly original Mark 1, this is a rare find. Chassis is S989985DN. Engine is KF2085-8. Gearbox is GBN20815JS.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
