Purchased in fall 2006. Car was pulled off the road for a head gasket in 1973--machine work was done, and then it was pushed into a barn, where I found it. Car is seemingly pretty original and must have been in decent condition in 1973.

I have a few other restoration projects in line in front of this one...ultimately it will be restored if it's not rusted beyond salvage.

I should note the title says '59 but this car seems early enough to be a '58.

Hello Roger,
Thorley's book shows 988216 as being manufactured on or before Feb.1958.
He also shows 987132 on or before Nov. 1957.
Your car was probably made in January 1958, but certainly not in 1959.
When will you start posting restoration pictures ;-)

Dan, thanks for the info! Cars here in Washington often have really odd title dates, corresponding to first sale as opposed to build.

Restoration photos? Very funny. ;^) This car is about #254 on my list of projects to complete.

I have a circa 1959 3.4 MK-1 speedometer for sale if you need one. I bought it for my 1965 'S' type Saloon thinking it was the right speedo but no cigar. I finally found out what the L it was after I contacted a UK business who told me '1957-1959 3.4 Jaguar Small Saloon speedometer'. There's so few of those MK-1 it must be the rarest of the Small Saloons.
Please restore it fast. Put it ahead of all the others.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
