Having originally left Jaguar's Coventry factory in 1957, this MkI 2.4, a righthand drive four-door saloon with all numbers still matching and the desirable four-speed manual gearbox enhanced with overdrive, has been in receipt of a freshly executed ground-up restoration and only recently repatriated to the UK. As well as a bare metal repaint in the original British Racing Green, the interior has received a full MCT trim kit in suede green leather, all to original specification.
Since all the work was carried out, the vendor tells us that the car has only done around fifty miles, the current cosmetic and mechanical condition being described as excellent. By auction day, we understand that the car is likely to have been successfully MOT tested for the next twelve months as well as UK registered again. On file are photos recording the restoration work as well as a Heritage certificate confirming dating and manufacturing details.

Overview
This right-hand drive example was sold new to South Africa and restored there over the course of approximately the past two years, the body being renovated and the interior refurbished with new leather, new carpets and re-veneered woodwork. Finished in British Racing Green with suede green interior, the car has the desirable four-speed manual/overdrive gearbox and is described by the private vendor as in generally excellent condition. Import duties have been paid and the vehicle is offered with MoT to April 2006.

The image does NOT belong to this car! The car in the image is Nigel Webb's recreation of Mike Hawthorn's 3.4L Mk 1 and has the Reg 881 VDU. It is outside his house and I took the photo back in 2003. Please remove it.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
