The History and Paperwork

We are told the car was first registered on 11th January 1958 in Gallivare

Chassis records indicate the car left the factory as a late 1956 RHD car

1956 RHD 2.4 cars ran from chassis 900053 to 90298

This car displays chassis plate S906249

Prepared for restoration in 1978 but never completed over 30 years

Acquired by the seller in 2008 and subsequently restored over six years to 2013

Believed to only have had 2 registered keepers as a complete car

4 previous owners in all, only 2 drove the car

Restoration documented in history file

Vast history file dating back to January 1958 and first owner

Additional anecdotal records noted in history file and photographs

File includes invoices, manuals, inspection reports, notes and photographs

Various trophies won by car also included

Original factory finished in Cornish Grey with blue leather, now OEW with red leather

Car has only ever lived and been driven in Sweden

The story of this beautiful 66 year old car is quite remarkable. And it is all carefully documented in its extensive history file. Here is a summary.

The car was first registered on 11th January 1958 by an engineer in the town of Gallivare in northern Sweden.

The first owner covered just 4,101 miles (6,600kms) in the first 13 years of its life, travelling locally. In 1978 it transferred to its second owner who intended to restore it. He began the process of dismantling it before selling it two years later to a friend who planned to continue the refurbishment process. Unfortunately that never happened and the car remained stored in a warm garage for the next 30 years.

The vendor, a lady of 78, acquired the car in 2008 planning to restore it. She had always wanted an Old English White Jaguar with burgundy interior and set about achieving this with the help of a local mechanic. He restored the car over six years, completing it in 2013. This work, like all other servicing and maintenance on the car, is carefully documented in the history file.

Since the car was finished it has been used sparingly and mainly locally, attending shows and rallies. It has accrued a range of trophies, some of which are shown in photographs and including the People’s Choice award at a local show.

The only trip further afield was to take part in a rally in northern Sweden close to the car’s original home in Gallivare. It was carefully transported there on a covered trailer. During that trip the owner met a local Jaguar enthusiast who was a child in 1958 and recalled the car from its early days with the first owner. He told the owner how it was used very sparingly, mainly for vacations to the south of Sweden.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
