Car to be at auction 9/21
www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2021-09-25/cars/ref-62-1956-jaguar-mk-i-jg/

Auction description:
Ascot Racecourse September 25th 2021
1956 Jaguar Mk. I
Lot Number 161
Registration 231 UXO
Chassis Number 5901275
Engine Number BB27618
Estimate £18,000 - £22,000
This very nice example is presented in black with red leather interior and was originally supplied to Eric Williams Ltd with the original registration number of OFK 26. The present owner has an original sale letter when the car was sold to its third owner in 1960 which is a nice part of its history. The car has been fitted with new Michelin XAS top of the range tyres, it has a full stainless steel exhaust system, all new headlining, its interior wood is in superb condition, new carpets and new door cards. It has had new sills, jacking points, front floor and 99% of the chrome has been re-chromed by Silva Bronz Ltd in Hampshire. The car comes with its original toolkit (although some items are missing). There are a few items that need a bit of attention including the horn which is not working and the driver's door lock button is broken but another one is supplied with the car. The car could do with a tune and clutch adjustment but apart from that, a very good and rare car, like the model shown on the TV series ‘Endeavour’.

Car returns to auction 1/23

Auction description:

Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th January 2023

1956 JAGUAR MKI

Estimate:  £15,000 - £18,000

V5 present

MoT exempt

Chassis number: 5901275

This 2.4-litre manual Jaguar MkI received a nut-and-bolt restoration over a 10-year period earlier on this century, and more recently has had its master and slave cylinders refurbished and its carburettors serviced. The headlining, upholstery and carpets are also fresh. In the words of the vendor, ‘it is now ready to be enjoyed’. The MkI was registered in June 1956 and now shows 21,285 miles on its odometer. Just four keepers overall are shown on the modern V5C.

The car comes with a large history folder that includes the current V5C, the old buff logbook, two owner's handbooks, and a hefty stack of 21st century receipts, with much of it chronicling the restoration. There are MoT certificates from 1971 (when the mileage was 18,140 miles), 1993 (21,046 miles) and 2005 (21,271 miles) suggesting very limited use and that the low mileage may be genuine.

Car returns to auction 4/23

Auction description:

Ascot Racecourse April 8th 2023

1956 Jaguar Mk. I

Lot Number 140 Registration 231 UXO Chassis Number 5901275 Engine Number BB27618 Odometer reading 21,652 miles Estimate £14,000 - £17,000

Originally registered on 12th June 1956 this example is presented in black with red leather interior and is formerly the property of motoring journalist John Deverall. A significant amount of work has been carried out on this Jaguar over the years including new sills, jacking points and front floor. Most of the brightwork has been re-chromed by Silva Bronz Ltd in Hampshire and the headlining has been replaced as have the carpets and door cards. The wood within the car, of which there is plenty, presents well. A stainless-steel exhaust system has been fitted and this 2.4 litre Jaguar sits on a set of Michelin tyres. We are advised the brakes are operational although not particularly convincing and may require some attention. Supplied with a V5C registration document, together with the original buff logbook together with a collection of invoices and receipts. These beautifully sculptured Jaguars are becoming increasingly collectable.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
