Ebay item 12/17/14 www.ebay.com/itm/Jaguar-Other-Biscuit-Cream-Leather-Wool-Carpets-1965-mark-2-3-8 ...
Car has a buy it now price of $38,295 for 6 days. Complete VIN on this car is J65P223939BW
Sellers description:
This orginal California 'Black Plate' 1965 Jaguar Mark 2, 3.8 Litre left hand drive Sedan was ordered and purchased for European delivery by an American, grieving California widow looking to cheer herself up in late 1965 after her husband had passed unexpectedly earlier in the year. The JAG was ordered for 'PICK-UP' delivery in Europe by the original Owner, Mrs. Stokes, who preceded to celebrate her (and her husband's) life and time together and boldly proceeded to travel throughout Europe (Germany, France, Portugal, and the Middle East (Lebanon) and other countries ( I have several medallions from the countries to bestow), and finally after several months, having the car imported and returned to California. A decade later, once the kids had moved on, she moved to Arizona for another glorious 15 years, Mrs. Stokes passed after those years in Arizona, and bequeathed her Jaguar Mark 2 to family, her son, in Texas, Mr. R. Stokes, who subsequently advertised the car for sale in 'CollectorCar Trader' Magazine in 2005 which I found at the local newstand in northern Virginia. I set about contacting her son, hvaing been in love with Mark 2's since I first saw them at the age of 15 and after hearing the story made a deal with the proviso that I would restore the car with the promise to the Stokes that I would take the car back to Virginia and bring it back to life and up to its 'old' pizazz that the kids always remarked to their friends about town in their twenties about their Mom, "There she goes ! My Mom ( 'the little old lady from Pasedena' ) driving her JAG !" I'm told many a tour throughout the mountains of California, up the coast and back down Route 1.
Well, here we are. The 'Stokes' Jaguar Mark 2 is restored to its former glory. It was a labor of love (and of course money). Much effort has been expended and as much care befitting the car as possible has been taken. The suspension has been rebuilt and rebushed. The interior was weathered from the dry Southern California and Arizona climates and was removed and replaced with tan, biscuit cream leather hides and dark green wool carpets. The woodwork was removed and placed in the hands of a Rolls Royce woodwork restorerer, then finished to a mirror 'burl walnut finish' and it shows. The body (original BRG paint was crazed and cracked) was stripped to bare metal and resprayed in its original British Racing Green by an old country craftsman whose experience repetroire included the curved lines of Lear Jets and many a classic car (Hudsons, 50's Corvettes, Mercury's, sports cars, muscle cars, you name it). The car traveled by trailer to the venerated 'Cloverleaf Service's' shop in Malvern, PA for a fellow vintage racer's JAG mechanical expertise (he races XK's) and care was taken to restore the suspension. The engine was fully inspected and checked for wear in all elements. Final tuning was performed by the Jag XK140 Vintage racing guys. At 50,000 miles, the car starts, runs and at idle, holds 60 to 80 psi and 45-50 psi when running. A recent 'Girling' Brake Booster has been retrofitted to remove the old 'Lockheed' booster and the brakes are superb (all fully refurbished four wheel disc brakes, calipers, rotors, etc. ), the large air filter removed (darn thing hides the beautiful powerful 3.8 litre overhead cam engine (same engine as the XKE) and individual pancake filters on the original SU carbs (sourced from XK's Unlimited) added to sport up the engine. Electrics, High beam, low beam are good to go. The dash lights make you wonder if they are on per usual for Lucas. An 'Intermotor' Sport Coil has been added (40,000 volt coil). Windshield washer is new (from SNG Barratt USA) but look out, it will spray the car behind you (what a beast). Can't think of anything else... oh, new rubber seals and gaskets and stainless steel exhaust system.
What I haven't done. I have not touched the original 'Blaupunkt' radio (tried but can not get any life from it...believe it is toast, but it is the authentic original and was as installed as an option as delivered by the dealer. The tires. The 'red line' radial Michelins on the CHROME SEVENTY-TWO SPOKE WIRE WHEELS and its ORIGINAL WIRE WHEEL SPARE are still on the car. I am providing a set of NEW 'Redlines' (Cokers) and will mount and spin balance the wheels if so desired or will ship the new tires loose if the buyer so chooses, or will credit their worth off the purchase price provided it is close to the price offered, if the Buyer doesn't desire to have the Cokers.
NUMBERS MATCHING Original BRG exterior; Restoration places car between (Hagerty) #1 and #2 condition with minor imperfections with this frame on restoration; Less than 100 miles since restoration. Original Black Plate California Car; ORIGINAL CHROME WIRE WHEEL CAR with Automatic DG250 original transmission which was refurbished at 25,000 miles . British Racing Green 'respray' on bare metal June 2013, leather interior fall 2014, Burl Walnut restored and fitted with interior job, Master Cylinder brake booster retrofitted early this December 2014.
