This 1962 Jaguar Mk II was purchased new by the seller’s parents in California and was inherited by the seller in 2007. The car is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six mated to a three-speed automatic transmission and is finished in metallic blue over blue leather upholstery. Equipment includes dual SU carburetors, four-wheel disc brakes, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front and rear quarter vent windows, lap belts, rear folding trays, and an aftermarket retro-style radio linked to a 10-disc CD changer. This MK II is now offered with manufacturer’s literature, a service manual, partial service records, and a California title in the seller’s name, listing it as a 1964 model.

The car is finished in metallic blue and was repainted in the late 1970s. The seller states the right fender was either replaced or repaired in 2001 following a collision. Exterior details include chrome bumpers with overriders, a Jaguar “leaper” hood ornament, front and rear vent windows, and twin exhaust outlets. The windshield washer is inoperative and there is a chip on the right rocker panel.

Silver-finished wire wheels are secured with two-eared knockoffs and are mounted with 185-series Michelin tires that show date codes from 2008. A full-size spare is stored under the trunk floor. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs.

The cabin houses reupholstered front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in blue leather with color-coordinated door panels. Refinished wood trim accents the dashboard and doors, and fold-down picnic trays are fitted for rear seat passengers. A Custom Autosound retro-style push-button radio has been added to the center stack and is wired to a 10-disc CD changer mounted in the trunk. There are blemishes in the finish of the upper dashboard and the heater does not work.

The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and centrally mounted auxiliary gauges. The seller notes the inset clock is inoperative. The five-digit odometer has rolled over and shows 22k miles, though the seller states the reading is inaccurate.

The twin-cam 3.8L inline-six is equipped with dual SU carburetors. The fuel pump was reportedly replaced in June 2023. The seller states that the engine runs hot in warmer ambient temperatures, the oil pressure is low at lower speeds, and there is an engine oil leak.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed Borg-Warner transmission. Engine and transmission oil leaks are noted.

The car is titled using VIN J64P221224BW, which incorporates the chassis number shown above prepended by “J64.” The California title is listed as a duplicate.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
