Seen on eBay, November 2006:
"For sale at auction is a wonderful and rare find. An original California black registration plate car, stored for 15+ years in Fresno California. It appears from the overall condition that the car has operated in this dry climate as well. No Rust. If you are contemplating a restoration of a MKII, then know that most of the money you spend will be in eliminating the rust in the body! Here is a rare opportunity to avoid that expense.
As a Southern California car, it was equipped with the very rare air conditioning combined with a factory optioned 4-speed transmission with overdrive.
Please read all of the text as we have attempted to thoroughly and accurately describe this amazing find. True Mileage is Unknown.
Mechanicals - This car is very complete
The engine and all the mechanicals are very complete down to the original air cleaner. Some hoses have been replaced but most everything else is original in engine bay. Engine no longer turns over, probably due to 15+ years of storage. The Trans shifts thru all the gears. Overdrive is original as fitted to car at the factory. Entire brake system is complete. Suspension components have no signs of damage but as is to be expected the rubber parts are weak. Clutch hydraulics do not function due to storage.
The undercarriage was pressure washed by us to look for any indications of previous damage or trouble. The front clip and suspension appear completely untouched and straight. The rear axle and associated equipment is all there does not indicate anything abnormal. The bottom side of the car is perfectly straight and is rust free! No bubbles, No nothing. You will see in the photos, some surface rust on chrome bits and such, but there is nothing that indicates the standard bucket of rust you will normally find on an un-restored MKII.
Body and Exterior - The best condition to start from
A 3.8 MKII Jaguar that is virtually damage free and totally free of any rust! Even the trunk well, doors, and rubber seal flange areas have escaped the ravages of time and rust. It has been re-sprayed once and that coat of paint has long since been sacrificed to the California sun gods. There are crazing and cracks in the finish that make the car look much worse than its true condition. The car retains ALL its original panels including sills floors and fenders. Even the lower parts of the doors are free of any signs of rust blisters. The hood was re-shot with grey primer but is the original fitted to the car. The incredible condition of the body shell and panel will lower your body and paint bill dramatically. You can put your sheet metal shears and welder away since no panel replacement will be needed. The chrome needs redone, but it is not bent, its all there, and can redone without reconstruction. The boot is dry and has no rust through as is normal. The rear bumper is not mounted as the rubber mounts have given up. The chrome is all there including the hard to get windscreen surrounds. They will need to be refinished, but none is missing or severely bent or damaged. A new set of wire wheels can be had for $1000 so no need to refinish these.
Interior - Very complete, but not the original leather
The interior is complete and all the wood will refinish easily without any major veneer work. The seats have been recovered as some time in the cars past with cloth. The original leather probably failed in the hot sun many years ago. Its all there, the carpets are in tact to provide perfect patterns, the dash is complete and original. The instruments are untouched and original. Other than the horn ring all trim is in place. The shift boot has been replaced with a parts store universal. This Jag will require a complete redo inside, but again, a very good position to start from instead of hunting for lost bits. Originally fitted with a radio, the current radio does not appear to be the original.
Summation - What a great place to start!
MKII Jaguars have established their place as the most beautiful four door car in the world. With every passing year the purity of the lines and design become more and more evident. With a dozen companies throughout the world specializing in improvement and upgrades to this model you can either restore to show, or upgrade and modify to use as a reliable driving car. This particular car is a Jaguar restorer and body man's dream. A wonderful find for restoration. Anyone that has taken on a rusty car knows the expense and compromise involved in bringing it back. An did I mention the expense. Here is an opportunity to start with a clean slate. Disassemble, renew, and reassemble. The MKII is a very popular Jaguar to restore for the many positive properties it contains. The same brilliant engine as the E-type, the lovely body design, and the very inviting and visually stunning interior.
