New Fuel Pump, Sender, Gauge

Private Party or Dealer: Dealer

This 1961 Jaguar Mk II is a running and driving project car which is powered by a 3.8-liter straight-six mated to a three-speed automatic transmission and was acquired by the selling dealer’s shop after its previous owner passed in 2018. Subsequent service reportedly included a tune-up, a carburetor cleaning, and an oil change as well as braking and fuel system work. This Mk II is offered at no reserve with a Connecticut bill of sale.

The body wears faded silver paint, there is evidence of previous bodywork including in a damaged area of the left rocker panel.

Body-colored 15″ steel wheels wear Sigma Supreme SE radial tires and are covered by spats in the rear. The brake calipers are said to have been rebuilt and the hoses replaced, while selling dealer notes that the brake booster is in need of replacement and is currently bypassed.

The interior is trimmed in maroon vinyl with gold carpets and green floor mats. A flip-down center arm rest and picnic tables are featured in the rear.

The five-digit odometer shows 66k miles, with total mileage unknown. The gauges, interior and exterior lights, and accessories are functional according to the selling dealer, though the radio is inoperable. A new fuel gauge and speedometer cable are said to have been installed.

The 3.8-liter straight-six is shown being started and run in the video above. A tune-up, cleaning and adjustment of the SU carburetors, and an oil change are said to have been performed at the selling dealer’s shop along with replacement of the fuel pump and sending unit. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed Borg Warner automatic transmission, which is said to leak fluid and does not hold in the “park” position.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
