Car on BaT

bringatrailer.com/listing/1961-jaguar-mk-ii/

Auction description:

Seller: CapnDonNavy66

Location: Portland, Oregon 97229-4724

Chassis: P214159BW

3.8-Liter Inline-Six

Three-Speed Automatic Transmission

White Paint

Red Leather Upholstery

15" Steel Wheels w/Hubcaps

Lap Belts

Service Records

Spare Parts

Private Party or Dealer: Private Party

Lot #152981

The seller purchased this 1961 Jaguar Mk II in 1988 and it is powered by a replacement 3.8-liter inline-six linked with a three-speed automatic transmission. Finished in Old English White over red leather, the car is equipped with a limited-slip differential, rear wheel spats, four-wheel disc brakes, 15″ steel wheels with hubcaps, front bucket seats, a cassette stereo, and a heater. This Mark II 3.8 is now offered with a selection of spares and a clean Oregon title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in Old English White and exterior equipment includes a Leaper hood ornament, a pop-up cowl vent, rear wheel spats, and chrome wraparound bumpers with overriders as well as a chrome grille, window surrounds, and trim. There is a dent in the left-rear fender, damage on the right wheel spat, rust in the doors and right-front fender, and the seller notes that the rear end was damaged in the mid-2010s.

The 15″ steel wheels feature chrome hubcaps and are mounted with 195-series Coker Classic tires. The car was factory equipped with an independent front suspension and a cantilevered live rear axle. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes. Non-adjustable lower ball joints have been installed and there is a power-steering fluid leak.

The seller installed a red leather interior from a later model Mark II in 1988. Burl walnut veneers adorn the dashboard, door caps, and window frames, and interior equipment includes lap seatbelts, a cassette stereo, a heater, and front and rear vent windows. There is a hole in the headliner, the console retainer nut is missing, the windshield is cracked, and water leaks in around the windshield seal.

Smiths instrumentation consists of a 140-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and centrally positioned auxiliary gauges displaying water temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 27k miles and has rolled over. The seller has driven the car approximately 100k miles.

The replacement 3.8-liter inline-six was installed in 1988 at Peter Price Sports & Vintage. The seller notes that the engine runs rough and that there is low compression in at least one cylinder. There are leaks from the engine and transmission.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. The transmission does not start in low gear when drive is selected and does not kick down automatically.

A spare transmission is included in the sale along with the factory radio, a fuel tank, brake parts, a rear window, and an Autopress workshop manual.
