Auction description:
Classic & Historic Automobile, BCA (2nd October 2007)
Of extremely smart appearance in British Racing Green, this example of the 340 has clearly been the subject of considerable refurbishment. The appearance is further enhanced by the chrome wire wheels whilst the upholstery has been recently renewed, this being in black hide. The carpets also have been renewed. On the mechanical front we are advised that the automatic transmission has undergone an overhaul within the last month or so, the braking system has benefited from considerable work, the engine, we are informed, is '100%' and the exhaust system has been replaced with a stainless steel unit. The car is reported to have had just two owners and to have covered 52,000 miles

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
