Ebay item 12/22/13
www.ebay.com/itm/Jaguar-E-Type-Sports-Sedan-XKE-sedan-Jaguar-420-Sport-Sedan-JCN ...
Car has a buy it now price of $24,500 for 6 days. 56k miles.
Sellers description:
This car runs strong and runs with the fastest of traffic on the highways! History. I believe this to be a Dallas car most of it's life. I have copies of Texas titles going back before 1991. The car is very solid and straight. It has a matching numbers block and cylinder head to the VIN plate, but the transmission is not matching. This car was originally an automatic and converted to the 4 speed and overdrive by engineer John Boyd. He restored this Jag and 20 others in his life. He is now in his 80's. The advantage for you is that the gearing for the rearend is slightly taller for an automatc. Now with the 4sp and od, the Jag has taller gearing than (3.54 as opposed 3.77) original. This makes for better gas mileage and longer component life (water pumps, alternators etc) last longer. Also the transmission tunnel was larger on the automatics, so with the narrower 4 speed, more hot air can get out of the engine compartment and the car runs cooler. This is an ideal situation!!! Recent history. I recently rebuilt the carbs and put in new throttle shafts. The car has recently been serviced front to back and is ready to roll. I also converted the Jag to a new rotary AC compressor. It always starts well and runs good, runs cool and great oil pressure! Brakes stop straight and true. I need to mention that it comes with the FACTORY TOOL KIT, OWNER'S MANUAL, ORIGINAL REPAIR MANUAL, AND A FACTORY ORIGINAL PARTS MANUAL. I HAVE PULLED THE DOOR PANELS AND GREASED/OILED ALL THE WINDOW AND DOOR LATCH MECHANISMS. The doors all DROP-CLOSED BEAUTIFULLY! It has been upgraded to electronic ignition for carefree motoring, and a spin-on oil flter for ease of servicing. This Classy Classic Jag is a rock'n rollin classic car. I have driven it to Austin Texas 3 times in the last couple of years, and last month I drove it to Sugarland Texas for a Jaguar Concours where it won 1st place in it's class. The Jag runs good, stops good, power steering is nice, clutch and transmission is strong, and it looks like a million bucks with it's Rolls Royce styled grill and Dunlop chrome Diamond Wheels! I purchased the 420 (we named in 'Nilla cause of the color) several years ago and took it to it's current level. it is an older restoration that obviously presents well, but does not have an expensive paint job, making it easier to own and drive instead of park and hide and never drive. THIS JAGUAR IS A VERY NICE DRIVER! The AC works GREAT and the old Jag never overheats with big grill and big mechanical fan. It also has has twin saddle gas tanks and dual fuel pumps that work well, leather seats, the factory tool kit, owners manual, factory parts manual, and factory repair manual. The 420 is the immediate predecessor to the series 1 XJ6 , which was a pretty good car if you could find an overdrive model, but they had lousy air conditioners.... This Jaguar is a true survivor and represents well the pinnacle of Classic Jaguar sedans. Turn the key, push the button, and go! It does need new foam in the front seat bottoms, and the odometer reads higher mileage. Bid accordingly. I will install a new pinion seal next week. This car always starts for me, and you will have to get use to all the thumbs up going down the road, and the admirers at the car shows!
