Private Party or Dealer: Private Party

This 1965 Jaguar S-Type is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, and it is finished in white over red leather. Equipment includes dual fender-mounted mirrors, an independent rear suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, and an AM/FM/cassette radio. The seller acquired the car in Illinois in 2007 from its previous owner of nearly 20 years. This S-Type is now offered at no reserve with manufacturer’s literature, a tool kit, partial service records, and a clean Illinois title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in white, and it features a chrome grille topped by the Jaguar “leaper” hood ornament, chrome bumpers with overriders, and dual chrome mirrors mounted on the front fenders. The seller notes evidence of bodywork beneath the headlights and areas of apparent repainting. Dings and scratches are noted and there is an area of cracked paint near the windshield on the driver side.

White-painted 15″ steel wheels with Jaguar hubcaps and bright trim rings are mounted with 205/75 Firestone FR380 tires that show 2008 date codes. A jack and a spare rim with an older Pirelli tire are located in the trunk. The S-Type was equipped from the factory with an independent rear suspension and four-wheel disc brakes, the rear set of which are situated inboard. The seller reports having replaced the front brake pads upon acquiring the car.

The seats are upholstered in red leather with matching carpets and trim. The leather on the seat bottoms has been replaced. Equipment includes an interior map light, a heater, three-point front seatbelts, front and rear armrests, and an aftermarket Alpine cassette stereo. The front seats are said to shed foam onto the floor when sat upon, the turn-signal switch is missing, and the driver-side door pocket is detached.

A two-spoke steering wheel fronts a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5,500-rpm redline, while to the right on the dashboard Smiths gauges monitor coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 26k miles, approximately 1k of which were added by the seller, and true mileage is unknown. The seller notes the horn is disconnected.

The 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six is fed by twin SU carburetors and was rated at 220 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque when new. The condenser, spark plugs and wires, and distribution cap have been replaced under current ownership. The car’s most recent service was in 2009, at which time the points and choke were adjusted, fluids were topped up, and the oil and filter were changed. The seller replaced the battery in preparation for the sale. There is a radiator coolant leak.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed Borg-Warner automatic transmission, for which the rear mount was replaced under current ownership. A replacement stainless-steel exhaust system also has been installed. Corrosion is noted along the rocker panels and at the bottom edges of the doors.

Manufacturer’s literature is included.

The vehicle is titled by its Body No. (4B57752) rather than the Car No. (P1B78008BW)

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
