Ebay item 8/4/13
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1965-Jaguar-3-8S-Saloon-automatic-/281146254357
Opening bid $9,500, no bids 6 days left in auction, buy it now price $15,000.

Sellers description:
P1B77809BW was imported from the USA five years ago, it has only 67,500 miles. It is in good to very good condition and leaves by road. The car passed technical and safety inspection when I imported it to be able to register it in Canada. It is driven occasionally during summer and stored in my heated garage in winter. I now work abroad a lot so must sell some of my toys...

Body - Opalescent blue paint by previous owner is really nice while not concours. There is no rust on the floors under the carpets or seats, on the fenders, rocker panels, doors, boot compartment, engine bay, subframe that I have inspected. Chromes were entirely redone and are very nice. All glass is excellent, all windows operate properly, all locks work, doors latch properly and all body panels are correctly aligned. I have done absolutely no bodywork to this car since I bought it as it was in very good condition.

Engine-transmission - This car is fitted with the larger 3.8 L engine, 9:1 compression ration, has normal oil consumption and pressure of 40-50 lb. The cooling radiator is newly rebuilt, there is a new electric pancake fan so engine temperature stays in normal ranges even in traffic. SU carburators are completely rebuilt, correctly adjusted and polished, both fuel pumps are new and the electric choke works well, so the car starts instantly every time. There is a new 123 electronic distributor and Lucas high performance coil, new plugs and wires. The automatic 3-speed transmission works well and shifts smoothly.

Brakes-suspension-wheels - Brakes were redone to pass certification inspection and an upgraded larger Lockheed brake servo unit was installed. The six shock suspension rides very smooth and absorbs irregular road surfaces very well. Wire wheels are original Jaguar units, without any broken wire, except on the spare wheel in the trunk, tires are brand new radials with proper vintage thread design.

Interior-instrumentation - Interior is really nice. All wood is beautiful, leather seats are all new Conolly leather with contrasting piping and the smell... Instruments work well, including the ammeter and yes the clock also works as it has been modernised. 12 volt system uses the normal negative ground. Dashboard lighting now uses stronger lights so instruments are readable at night! The steering wheel has a beautiful wood rim and the roof headliner is recent. Carpets are in good condition.

The things to know - The car is not a concours car, it is a drivers car and there are always things that could be fixed or upgraded. The vacuum operated air vent trap opens manually but not via vacuum. There is some play in the steering linkages but it does pass safety inspection, there are minor oil leaks under the engine and transmission, the radio is the original unit with a cassette tape player, and the retractable antenna does not operate. The only place I have found rust and I looked everywhere is on what is called the crow foot, a kind of light guage reinforcement section behind the front grill near the bottom of the fenders, they cost 25 british pound from SNG Barrat. Apart from that, the car is as described above. Final words The car is sold as is, it is almost 50 years old, drives well and has no major flaws. I drive it in the summer to keep things running smoothly so it is registered and insured and can go by road. Between purchase price, repairs and upgrades, I have invested in excess of 30,000$. The car comes with some maintenance spares, the Jaguar parts catalog and detailed maintenance manual.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
