Car on BAT:
bringatrailer.com/listing/1965-jaguar-s-type-3/
Current Bid: $8,900

Auction description:
Lot #11365

Location: Delta, British Columbia, Canada
Chassis: P1B76088BW
Owned 29 Years
18k Indicated Miles, TMU
Rebuilt 3.8L Inline-Six
4-Speed Manual Transmission
Rebuilt Braking System
Repainted ~2001
Interior Refurbished ~2009
Private Party or Dealer: Private Party

This 1965 Jaguar S-Type has been owned by the seller for the last 29 years, during which it underwent a cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment. The car is equipped with a 3.8L inline-six built on an over-bored donor block with upgraded internals, a refurbished original cylinder head, and electronic ignition, while a 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive has replaced the factory automatic. It has reportedly been driven on short summer trips and had fluids replaced every year since completion, also winning several class awards at local meets. This S-Type is located in Delta, British Columbia and offered with clean registration in the seller's name.

The inner and outer door sills, portions of the front and rear fenders, jacking points, and rear valance were replaced with new sheet metal due to rust issues, and the car was repainted in Jaguar XK8 Cobalt Blue in 2001.

The bumpers and overriders were rechromed, and the knock-off wire wheels were mounted with a set of Vredenstein Sprint Classic tires approximately five years and 1,000 miles ago. Adjustable Spax shocks have also been installed.

Seating was recovered in leather by a local upholstery shop, while the door panels, carpeting, and other trim were procured as a kit from BAS Limited. The wood paneling across the dash and door tops was not restored by the seller.

The odometer indicates just under 18k miles, though total mileage is unknown. Both sun visors were previously repaired, but workmanship is reportedly poor. The sliding sunroof is said to leak near its front edge when closed.

The 3.8L inline-six was built in 2005 on a donor block that was bored .020″ over with larger pistons, new bearings, and a reground crankshaft as well as a replacement timing chain and guides. The cylinder head is said to remain original and was fitted with new valves, guides, seats, and shims. Additional work included:

Rebuilt carburetor, water pump, generator, starter
Electronic ignition conversion
Radiator and heater core boiled and tested
Both fuel tanks cleaned, coated
Rebuilt differential
Full stainless exhaust

The factory automatic transmission was swapped for a 4-speed manual with overdrive in 2006, and the differential was regeared to compensate. The stock brakes have been converted to a dual-circuit system from a 1968 420 using 3-piston calipers up front and inboard discs at the rear.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
