Launched in 1963, the Jaguar S-type was marketed as more of an 'executive' car than its MKII sibling. Notably superior in terms of ride and handling thanks to the adoption of independent rear suspension (cribbed from the MKX / E-type), it also enjoyed a more spacious / luxurious interior complete with a dashboard-mounted walnut centre console. Visually distinguished by its elongated boot, flatter roofline and hooded headlamps, the S-type remained in production until 1968.
Finished in navy blue with grey upholstery, this particular 3.8 litre example was first registered on 18th March 1968. Said to have had just two owners up until 1992 (with a further three since then), it is believed, but not warranted, to have covered 80,000 miles from new. The subject of an older restoration, more recent work has seen the S-type treated to a rebuilt automatic transmission (2004) and overhaul of its factory-fitted power steering (2005). Sporting an original period radio in full working order (courtesy of its refurbishment by the Vintage Wireless Company), the Jaguar has reportedly been well maintained and regularly used. Riding on steel wheels, this pampered big cat is offered for sale with history file (including a large collection of MOT certificates / invoices) and current MOT certificate valid until December 2006."

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
