Sellers description:
A really sound, honest, usable 1967 Jaguar 420G (Like the MkX) with A/C. I have a handicap van factory in Atlanta and am a 45 year collector of British cars. Thank God the one pays for the other. Well, I am reaching an age where I must admit to myself that all my projects are probably not going to get finished....therefore I have been selling off several of my cars like this one. I have a flawless restored Black MkX but some time ago I came upon this 420G. As you probably know, the 420G is the exact same body as the MkX, it just has the newer 4.2 engine, better brakes, a chrome side molding and padded dash top. This is the last big Jag before the all inclusive XJ6 came out in 1969. This particular car is a really solid original car with orignal paint and interior. I believe the 85,000 miles it shows are real (by looking at all other parts of the car). It only has a couple grinchs of rust and a couple scrapes on the body. All glass is good as is most all the bountiful chrome. When we got it we did the usual. Pulled both gas tanks out, steamed them, reinstalled and fired it up. The original engine had a dead miss in it and only ran on 5 cylinders. ( I would guess a burned valve) so having a number of good engines we put in a good engine and trans. (I still have the original if you want it for those matching number people). We then rebuilt the brakes and put on new (larger) XJ6 front calipers and rotors. This required us to install a set of 15 inch wheels to fit over these larger brakes. The car originally had 14 inch wheels which always looked to me like a pig on roller skates, so this was an improvement. Good set of radials installed, then the hard part, new rubber gaskets installed in both front and real windscreens. If you've ever done this job you know how hard it is but absolutely essential if you want your car not to leak. The rear chrome molding is installed and the front one is in the car. New brake master cylinder, a little exhaust work and ...behold...an original barn find sort of Jaguar that actually runs good and stops better. It is not perfect but usable. It runs strong, shifts well and steers and stops well...even the original A/c still works. The car is a real good place to start for someone. The hard mechanics are done, the car is water tight and usable. Cosmetically you can do what you want but I find it sort of cool to go to a meet with a little scruffy, original jaguar that you can actually drive rather than trailer..and as they say.."it's only original once". The worst body ding is on driver's side front fender which I have a good repair fender section that goes with the car. We were going to just cut out the damaged area and replace a section of the wheel arch. (this is a luxury you have when working with a solid car that has thick enough sheet metal to weld to..unlike modern, "throw away" cars). OK... I won't get started on that speech about how much better older cars were, but you know how I feel about it. Anyway, the car is just sitting around in my building as I can't drive everything...so it needs somebody to take up the torch and continue to love on the old girl. The interior is dead original. I would put a new headliner in it, redo the drivers seat and leave it original...but complete reupholstery kits are easily available. Somebody is going to surely ask if they could drive the car home and my answer would have to be, "probably". I would try it knowing what I know about this car, but if the points close up or a fuel leak developed, I know how to fix it. I would say it's probably smart to truck it home and get used to it around your area first. It's cheaper many times. I recently broke down trying to drive an old Aston Martin home from Denver and I now know the U-haul manager in Topeka KS by his first name. To sum up...These cars bring nothing compared to what they should. They are a quality car and merit preserving. This is an honest car, not a painted harlot. We have a Georgia notarized Bill of sale and Ga tag receipt (there are not titles issued in Georgia for cars this old). You are free to come see the car in our Atlanta area.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
