Ebay item 3/5/08

Opening bid $19,000 reserve not met, no bids yet, 6 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
1968 Jaguar 420G Saloon finished in classic and enduringly tasteful ivory white over royal blue Connelly leather. Having lived a pampered enthusiast owned life in California, this perfectly straight and rust free example is without question one of the most exceptionally clean original vintage Jaguars that we’ve ever come across. Distinctly British, with its elegant design and opulent finishes, the car possesses an air of exclusivity unmatched even in many of today’s luxury marques. And it certainly draws more interest and attention.

The car’s original owner, a British ex-pat and Jaguar devotee, purchased the car new and retained it for thirty-six years (through 2004), until his ailing health prevented its further use and he reluctantly decided to let it go. That said, both he and the car’s second owner regarded it as a garage queen, restricting its use to weekend cruises and special occasions. Consequently the car has only 55,900 original miles, and its condition reflects it; its appearance is absolutely stunning.

Marred by only the most minor of imperfections (i.e. rock chips), which have each been professionally touched up, the correct ivory white exterior finish is in exceptional condition, free of any noteworthy blemishes and retaining astonishing depth and luster. All of the original chrome is in excellent condition, free of damage, flaking or significant pitting. All of the exterior rubber is also in excellent condition, as is the original glass, which is free of rock chips and pitting. The original wheels (while available to the next owner), have been replaced with flawless later model chrome Jaguar wheels which compliment the car beautifully.

The interior is equally as clean, the gorgeous deep blue Connelly leather seats in incredible unworn original condition. The interior carpets too are in excellent original condition, and all of the interior panels are flawless, as is the headliner. The gorgeous wood and leather dash is undoubtedly one of the most opulent of any production vehicle, and the 420G was the last model to be made with the traditional woodwork. All of the wood itself, including the door surrounds and picnic tables, is free of cracking or warping and it retains a high-gloss finish. Each of the rare manual windows works as it should, which any 420 enthusiast will recognize as a true blessing over the problematic power windows Jaguar sold in most of the car’s U.S. examples. The car also has Mark X air conditioning system.

The body is rust free and original - pans, doors and fenders showing no indication of rust or rust repair and no visible rust bubbling anywhere in the car’s finish. As the pictures below confirm, the car shows extremely well. Not a single outing goes by without admirers stopping to photograph the car, giving a “thumbs up” or smiling and pointing the car out to their companions. The 4.2 liter, twin OHC engine (taken from the Jaguar E-Type) has three huge SU carburetors which feed the six cylinders 265 horsepower, which, despite the car’s weight of more than 1800 kg, allows it to move with dominance and agility. This is especially true when mated to the very rare 4 speed manual transmission with overdrive. The engine is numbers matching and runs and idles smoothly, accelerating strongly through each of the gears and shifting effortlessly.
