The Jaguar 420 evolved from the MkX, which was uprated with the same 4235cc six cylinder engine in 1964 and, with new front end, became the 420 from 1966 and was also badged as a Daimler Sovereign. In 1969, the 420 had to make way for the new XJ6, powered by the same 4.2 engine.
Although the 19,500 miles displayed when entered for this sale cannot be authenticated, the vendor of this 420G believes that the total to be an accurate indication of mileage since new. For the 4.2 four-door saloon only had one owner until 1998, since when a four year restoration to an already good car has been undertaken by the second owner. In addition, there are bills for ú2500 for further work carried out during the last six months. Indeed, the Cumbrian vendor describes this 420G as the best example that he has ever seen, and he is a Jaguar concours judge, with, in his view, superb paint and an original leather interior with new carpets. The tyres are new, too, he says.
The current owner, only the third, informs us that his only reason for parting with the car is that another classic, that he has had his eye on for a very long time, has suddenly come up and he simply must buy it! By all accounts, this 420G is clearly a superb car indeed. Check it for yourself.
