Car was at auction 10/08
www.british-car-auctions.co.uk/Default.aspx

Auction description:
A very smart example of the immortal Mk 2, this 3.8 was originally exported to South Africa new in CKD form and confirmation from Jaguar is supplied. It was re-imported during 1989, subsequently undergoing much restoration. Acquired by the present owner nine years ago, the car was the subject of extensive work said to have cost in excess of GBP60,000, all carried out to a very high standard with much of the work being done by Chiltern Aston in Hertfordshire. The major restoration work was done during 2000 and since then regular maintenance has been undertaken to maintain the high quality of the vehicle and photos of various stages of restoration are available. The automatic gearbox is a later item having been installed due to disability, although the manual/overdrive gearbox is available. The specification includes upgraded brakes and power steering whilst the radiator and water pump were renewed and the exhaust system is in stainless steel. The fuel tank has also been renewed and the car is fitted with an immobiliser. Finished in British Racing Green with grey hide, the car sits on wire wheels and a spare set is also available.Documentation accompanying the vehicle includes a current MOT certificate valid until 9th June 2009 and a Swansea V5. Offered for sale due to bereavement, this fine Mk 2 is certain to be keenly sought.

The NEC Classic Motor Show Sale 2022

1964 Jaguar Mk2 3.8-Litre Saloon

A beautifully restored, matching numbers 3.8-litre, ex South African car finished in the most stunning combination of British Racing Green with Sage Green leather.

GUIDE PRICE: £35,000 - £40,000

Registration Number ENP 416B

Chassis Number A232768

Engine Number 7B647928

Transmission Auto

Body Colour British Racing Green

This, rather smart, 3.8-litre example dates from 1964 and we understand returned to the UK in 1990. It's a UK-supplied, right-hand drive car and was converted from a manual gearbox to automatic during its restoration by P and K Thornton in 1999. The Jaguar now presents very well in British Racing Green over Sage Green leather with new Apple Green carpets, a light grey headlining and excellent veneers. It looks very sporty with chrome wire wheels, Speedwell racing mirrors, chromed tailpipes and a Moto-Lita wood-rim steering wheel. Supplied with the car are invoices dated between 1992 and 2000 totalling £38,896 and in 2003 it was valued at £30,000. It has covered 96,500 miles which is a bit academic with a restoration of this quality.

This a beautifully presented Mk2 with all the right sporting cues and, unusually, it's an automatic which opens up a whole new list of potential owners who, for one reason or another, are more comfortable without a clutch pedal.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
