    Ebay item 8/28/08

Opening bid $10,000 reserve not met, no bids yet 8 days left in auction.

    Sellers description:
A beautiful Mark IX that is in excellent shape. I've owned this car for approximately 5yrs and now it's time send her on to another. She runs very well but has some fluid leaks as do almost all Jags, heck she's 47 yrs old! The engine is clean and as far as I know all original. The interior was redone some time ago with vinyl and is in excellent shape. The wood throughout is also in excellent condition. I don't know the actual mileage as the odometer and tachometer do not work. All lights etc work fine. There is a radio in one of the glove boxes but I've never used it. The chrome is in very good condition with only a some loss in a few areas. The paint is in good condition but there is some rust bubbling at the bottom of the doors as the pictures show. I've had only minor work done to the car during the time I've owned it and I've driven it for up to 4 hours roundtrip several times; she's never left me stranded. The front tires are showing wear as the pictures indicate. All in all this is an excellent vehicle that can be used as is or for a restoration project. I'm not a Jag expert and don't know much of the history of the car.

Current bid $3,050 reserve not met, 6 bids 4 days left in auction. Car still in Woodbine, New Jersey. Same photos.

    Sellers description:

I purchased this Mark IX in 2003 and have enjoyed it immensely but my work has changed and I cannot give her the attention she deserves so it's time for a new owner and hopefully a better life. I am not a car/Jag guy and so have had little done to the car save some minor repairs to keep her running. She is garage kept and lately I only start her up and drive about every other weekend. I don't believe this is an original color combination but I've seen a lot of Mark IXs and I have to say this two-tone blue is still my favorite. She's been in a few car shows and has garnered a few trophies and wherever I take her people still gawk and give the thumbs-up sign. She still starts up, almost on the first try, every time but no doubt needs someone who will begin a restoration. The engine looks good as the picture shows but there is a fair amount of fluid leakage but she's always done that. The original leather interior had been replaced with vinyl which is in very good condition. The roof liner is probably original and the woodwork is in very good shape. Most dials don't work but that's simply a matter of someone getting under the dash and re-wiring. The odometer did not work when I purchased her and is stuck on 50K+ miles. There is rust bubbling as the pictures show on the door bottoms and some of the bright work is beginning to chip but most is very good. The brakes are soft and will need attention soon and the tires will probably need replacing as well. There are few blemishes on the paint but from 10 feet she looks fantastic. This car's picture appears in "The Complete Book of Collectible Cars" by Richarch M. Langworth page 245. I've put a fairly low reserve and hope this beauty finds a new home.

Private Party or Dealer: Private Party

    Lot #164001

This 1961 Jaguar Mk IX is a left-hand-drive example that is said to have been refurbished under previous ownership prior to being purchased by the seller in 2003. Finished in two-tone blue, the car has a 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six that is mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. Additional features include SU carburetors, wheel covers, four-wheel disc brakes, a sliding sunroof, and blue vinyl interior upholstery. This Mk IX is now offered as a non-running project with an owner’s manual, a workshop manual, and a clean New Jersey title in the seller’s name.

The car is said to have received bodywork under previous ownership before a repaint in its current combination of two-tone blue. Features include front and rear bumper guards, driving lights, fender-mounted side mirrors, a sliding sunroof, and rear wheel spats. Areas of corrosion, bubbling, and flaking are present in various areas of the finish and trim, and the trunk does not close correctly.

Painted 16” wheels wear bright covers and are mounted with whitewall tires. Suspension incorporates a torsion-bar independent front setup and a leaf-spring solid rear axle. Stopping is handled by servo-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, while steering is also power assisted.

The left-hand-drive cabin was retrimmed under previous ownership with blue vinyl over the front and rear bench seats and matching upholstery lining the door panels. Additional features include pale blue carpeting, wood trim, folding rear tray tables, front and rear center armrests, a lockable glovebox, and a dash-mounted rearview mirror. The headliner exhibits staining and sagging and interior shows wear.

The four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a wood dashboard housing Smiths instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer with an inset clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 58k miles, approximately 600 of which have been added under current ownership. True mileage is unknown.

The 3.8-liter inline-six is fed by twin SU carburetors and was factory rated at 220 horsepower. The fuel tanks are said to have been refurbished under current ownership. The seller states that the car last ran approximately 10 years ago and that the battery is currently dead. Various oil leaks are noted.

A BorgWarner three-speed automatic transmission is linked to the rear wheels. Corrosion is present on various underside surfaces and components.
