This 1961 Jaguar Mark IX is a non-running project that comes from the model’s final year of production. The seller acquired the vehicle in early 2024 from the estate of a person who had acquired the car in 1994. Finished in silver and maroon over red leather upholstery, the Jaguar is equipped with a 3.8-liter inline-six and a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive as well as dual SU carburetors, a sunroof, driving lights, four-wheel disc brakes, rear-wheel spats, hubcaps, wood interior trim, and rear tray tables. The car is said to have been running in 2023 though it is not known when the car was most recently started or driven. This left-hand-drive Mk IX project is now offered with a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The car has been repainted in silver and maroon. Features include a “leaper” hood ornament, driving lights, dual side mirrors, rear-wheel spats, dual exhaust outlets, bright trim, and chrome bumpers with overriders. An inspection sticker from Oklahoma is affixed to the windshield. Cosmetic imperfections are visible.
Steel wheels finished in black and maroon feature chrome hubcaps and are mounted with whitewall tires. The Mark IX was the first Jaguar sedan to be equipped with four-wheel Dunlop disc brakes.
The front bucket seats and rear bench are trimmed in red leather upholstery. The cabin houses wood interior trim, which is utilized for tray tables attached to the front seatbacks. Interior wear and damage is visible.
The four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 5,500-rpm redline, a combination gauge for oil pressure and water temperature, plus readouts for amperage and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 81k miles.
A 3.8-liter variant of Jaguar’s XK inline-six is fitted under the hood. The seller states the engine turns over but won’t start.
The four-speed manual transmission is augmented by an overdrive unit.
