This 1959 Jaguar Mk IX sedan has been modified with the installation of an L98 350ci V8, a GM 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission, and a limited-slip rear end with 3.73:1 gearing. Finished in gray and blue over blue leather upholstery, the car is equipped with a sunroof, front disc brakes, power steering, 15″ steel wheels, hubcaps, whitewall tires, driving lights, rear-wheel spats, a sunroof, a tachometer, an Alpine CD stereo, lap belts, and rear tray tables. The current owner purchased the car in 2021. This modified Mk IX is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with a South Carolina title in the owner’s name.
This car is one of 10,009 Mk IX examples produced during the three-year production run. It is finished in two-tone gray and blue, and exterior equipment includes a manually operated sunroof, driving lights, a leaper hood ornament, fender-mounted dual side mirrors, rear-wheel spats, and chrome bumpers and trim. Areas of worn and pitted trim are visible.
Blue-painted 15″ steel wheels feature bright hubcaps and trim rings, and they are mounted with whitewall tires. The car has power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering, and the rotors for the front disc brakes are slotted and drilled. The steering gearbox was rebuilt and the brake master cylinder was resealed in 2022, according to the seller.
The cabin houses front and rear bench seats upholstered in blue leather. The door panels and carpeting are said to have been replaced. Other interior appointments include a dash-mounted rearview mirror, a heater, front and rear lap belts, an Alpine CD stereo, and rear tray tables. A switch for the electric choke is located under the dashboard.
The four-spoke steering wheel anchors an aftermarket turn-signal stalk. A walnut veneer dashboard frames centrally mounted instrumentation consisting of a Smiths 120-mph speedometer, an AutoMeter Sport-Comp 10k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges including Sunpro readouts for voltage and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 8k miles, approximately 1,500 of which were added under current ownership; true mileage is unknown. The factory coolant-temperature gauge is non-functional, one of the fuel-level gauges is inaccurate, and the horn is inoperable.
The L98 350ci V8 is said to have been sourced from a 1991 General Motors product, and it features Tuned Port Injection, an open-element air cleaner, and finned valve covers.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a GM 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission and a 1980s Chevrolet Camaro–sourced limited-slip rear end with 3.73:1 gearing.
The South Carolina title carries an “Antique” brand.
