Auction description:
Sale 16251 - Collectors’ Motor Cars, Motorcycles and Automobilia, 13 Sep 2008
Beaulieu Autojumble, National Motor Museum
Lot No: 348
1960 Jaguar MkIX ‘4.2-Litre’ Saloon
Registration no. 850 XUD
Chassis no. 775635BW

Sold for £3,680 inclusive of Buyer's Premium

First registered on 2nd January 1961 and delivered new via Henlys in London, this MkIX saloon has been fitted with the later 4.2-litre XK ‘six’ from an XJ6 together with a Borg-Warner Model 8 automatic gearbox. Purchased by the current owner at Bonhams’ Harrogate Sale in November 2007 (Lot 666), the car benefits from considerable mechanical re-commissioning carried out over the winter/spring of 2006/2007 involving the brakes, electrics and fuel system, plus the fitting of new radial tyres (including spare) and jack, leaving only its cosmetic refurbishment to be completed by a future owner. ‘850 XUD’ was used by the immediately preceding owner throughout the summer of 2007 to attend numerous rallies in Yorkshire and Derbyshire. Offered with Swansea V5C registration document, the car is attractively finished in two-tone British Racing Green over suede green, with matching original leather seats, replacement door cards and new carpets to the interior. No reserve.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
