This 1960 Jaguar Mk IX is a right-hand-drive example that was imported to the US decades ago and was purchased by the seller in 2015 out of 32-year second ownership in Arizona. It was refurbished over the ensuing years, with work including refinishing the frame and overhauling the brakes, fuel system, and exhaust system in addition to recovering the seats in red leather and resealing the power steering gearbox. The car has been refinished in Pearl Gray and cream and is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six linked with a three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes twin SU carburetors, a sunroof, rear tray tables, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, and 16″ steel wheels with hubcaps. This Mk IX is now offered with service records, spare parts, and a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.
This car is one of 10,009 Mk IX examples produced during the three-year production run. It was reportedly finished in the late 1980s in the original scheme of Pearl Gray and cream, and the seller notes blemishes on various panels, with rust spots on the lower door panels. Exterior equipment includes a manually operated sunroof, fog lights, rear fender skirts, and chrome bumpers with overriders. Pitting and rust discoloration are noted on the rear bumper.
The 16″ steel wheels feature pitted hubcaps and trim rings and were mounted with 185R16 Michelin tires under current ownership. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is provided by four-wheel discs, which were rebuilt in 2021. The emergency brake was adjusted and the master cylinder was repaired in October 2024, at which time the left-rear caliper was replaced. The power steering gearbox O-rings were also replaced in 2024.
The right-hand-drive cabin houses front and rear bench seats that were reupholstered in red leather in June 2022, and interior appointments include a dash-mounted rearview mirror, an unconnected push-button AM radio, and rear tray tables. The maroon carpets were also replaced in 2022, and signs of age and discoloration are noted on the headliner.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames a walnut veneer dashboard with centrally mounted Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock as well as a 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges for amperage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 83k miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership. The fuel-level gauge is said to work inconsistently. The speedometer bounces at speed and received a cable repair in 2017.
The 3.8-liter inline-six was factory equipped with two SU carburetors and was rated at 220 horsepower and 237 lb-ft of torque when new. Work in 2024 included replacing both fuel pumps, installing a single 12-volt battery, cleaning the carburetors, and repairing the fuel pump selector switch. A February 2022 tune-up consisted of fitting new spark plugs, flushing the radiator, and replacing the fan belt, hoses, and thermostat. The fuel tanks were resealed under current ownership. The heater box is disconnected.
Under current ownership, the body was removed from the frame, which was then blasted and refinished, with POR-15 applied at that time. The car is equipped with a Borg-Warner three-speed automatic transmission and a replacement exhaust system.
