Auction description:
Sale 16251 - Collectors’ Motor Cars, Motorcycles and Automobilia, 13 Sep 2008
Beaulieu Autojumble, National Motor Museum
Lot No: 397
1958 Jaguar MkVIII Saloon
Registration no. UWK 312
Chassis no. 764579DN
Engine no. NA3188-8
Sold for £14,375 inclusive of Buyer's Premium

A rare and desirable manual/overdrive transmission example complete with radio and fitted sunroof, ‘UWK 312’ was supplied new to Air Commodore K V Garside, of RAF Northwood and is one of fewer than 200 MkVIIIs known to survive. The car is described by the private vendor as in generally very good condition, benefiting from a bodywork restoration carried out 20 years ago and a complete new interior in 2008, while the clutch too is new and the engine is reported as running well, displaying good oil pressure. Finished in Burgundy with contrasting grey leather upholstery, this stately Jaguar luxury saloon is offered complete with all its original tools contained within the driver’s and passenger’s door trays, while the substantial history file includes a heritage certificate; maintenance manual; workshop and lubrication charts; and a large quantity of bills, receipts and invoices. The car is freshly MoT’d and comes with Swansea V5 registration document.

Lot Notice
The owner has informed us that the full compliment of original tools come with the car. These fit into the front door pocket tool boxes. The car is also equipped with a stainless steel exhaust system.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
