Auction description:
Lot number 72
Hammer value £11,400
Description Jaguar MkVIIM Saloon
Registration SVS 328
Year 1955
Colour Battleship Grey
Engine size 3,442 cc
Chassis No. 728826DN
Engine No. N2607/8

Dating from 1955, this MkVIIM was supplied new by Henlys of London in Battleship Grey with red leather to a DJ Glanfield of Surrey, and originally bore the personalized number plate DJG 26. A desirable manual overdrive model with a factory-fitted sunroof, it has been in the current ownership for around seven years. During that time it has been treated to a considerable amount of sympathetic refurbishment that results in the lovely condition you see today.

The interior is particularly impressive with beautifully preserved original red leather seats, superbly restored woodwork and new carpets, headlining and door cards. The inside of the boot has also been retrimmed. Much of this work was carried out by leading trimmers Suffolk & Turley and the results speak for themselves. The original valve radio has also been reconditioned and the correct wind-up aerial installed.

The sunroof has also been removed and all the drain channels cleared and repaired as necessary. Said to be in excellent running order throughout, this is a lovely old car that is ready to jump in and enjoy straight away. It comes with its original buff log book, a Heritage Certificate, various old MOTs back to 1971 (at 34,489 miles, now 38,000) and is currently MOTd until July 2010.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
