Car to be at auction 8/08
www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.sh/pubweb/publicSite.r

Auction description:
Sale 16250 - A Sale of Jaguar Motor Cars and Related Automobilia, 9 Aug 2008
XK60, Goodwood, Chichester, Sussex

Lot No: 203
Two owners from new
1954 Jaguar MkVIIM Saloon
Registration no. 981 DMD
Chassis no. 724130DN
Engine no. D5095-8
Estimate: £9,000 - 12,000

A rare manual/overdrive transmission example, this MkVIIM was supplied new via dealers Saul & Slatter, of London N13 to D Lowen, of London N21 and has had only one further owner in its 54 years. We are advised that the car has been barn stored for over 25 years and retains its original Birch Grey livery, never having been repainted, while the superb red leather interior is likewise completely original. The engine does run, but the car will need careful re-commissioning before re-emerging as a superb, unrestored 1954 Jaguar. ‘981 DMD’ comes with its original handbook, Jaguar Production Trace Certificate and assorted expired tax discs dating from 1958 to 1970, which should facilitate the original registration number’s reinstatement. Various period photographs are included in the sale also.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
