Auction description:
Dating from 1954, the Mk VII we offer here has been in the current ownership for the past 29 years, the vendor being only the second registered owner. The car has had two prolonged periods of inactivity during its lifetime – from 1967 to 1977 and from 1988 until now. The odometer is apparently inoperative but the vendor assumes that it ceased functioning whilst out of use and whilst in his hands only around 4,000 miles have been covered so it is believed that the correct mileage is approximately 40,000. The car would seem to be in extremely original order all round although a repaint was undertaken in 1977 in a slightly darker shade than that in which it started life. The engine is currently running whilst the other major mechanical components are all believed to be in good condition and the car should prove a comparatively straightforward restoration project.

It retains the period radio and is offered with a V5 document and buff logbook along with several previous MOTs and invoices which are said to support the recorded mileage. The distinctive registration number STU 977 is included.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
