Current bid $25,100.01 reserve not met, 4 bids 4 days left in auction. Bridgeport, Connecticut.

    Sellers description:

1950 Jaguar Mark V Drophead. Fully restored from a 43000 mile car. Current mileage is 43721 . The car was cosmetically restored about 5 years ago with all new chrome , show quality paint , Connelly maroon leather interior and a canvas top with wool headliner. The front end ,brakes and carburetors have just been rebuilt as weel as installation of new tires. The tool kit as shown is about 70% complete . The tri bar Lucas headlamps are in excellent condition and the car is a fully matching number car with the numbers shown on the original tag. The car was shown at the Greenwich Concours in 2005 where it received a first place trophy. The car is an extremely nice example and the car is priced to sell. It has never been for sale but was traded to us for a car the man wanted but to buy it had to trade this in.

Now (2010-06-07) the car is on e-bay again, but this time it is in Belgium, the photos would seem to verify this:

The fact that this car has trafficators would indicate first sale in continental Europe. My car (647194) had directional indicators (flasher) already in the summer of 1950, which is confirmed by the factory Service manual wiring diagrams and Spare parts book. Although headlamps may have been changed many times, the "tri-bar" Lucas headlamps would also belong to an European model, for US cars they used different PF.770 headlamps.

Little is known about this left-hand drive Mark V - which boasts the larger 3½-litre engine - other than it was acquired from Oldtimerfarm in Belgium in 2015. An online search has revealed that the car (believed sold new in Continental Europe) belonged to a Mr Jack Sanft in the USA in 1981 and was undergoing restoration at that time. Dated 2009, further online records state that the Jaguar had been cosmetically restored circa 2004 and had received a first-place trophy at the Greenwich Concours in 2005.

Finished in Bordeaux/black with red interior, the car has been stored since acquisition in 2015 and will require re-commissioning before further use. Accompanying documentation consists of copies of the 2015 advertisement, proforma invoice, and old Belgian registration papers. Mark V dropheads have been gaining in popularity recently and for good reason, as these beautiful cars epitomise Jaguar's traditional virtues of grace, space and pace.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
