Auction description:
Fine Motor Cars & The Jaguar Legend Saturday 18th June 2005
Lot 352
1951 Jaguar Mk V Drophead Coupe
Registration no: OUB 984
Chassis no: 640358
Estimate: £34,000-40,000

This open MkV first left Jaguar's Coventry works in 1951. We understand from the entrant that the drophead coupe was laid up from 1965 to 1993 when a most comprehensive rebuild commenced, the work taking until 2003 and reportedly costing a total of £90,000. Stunningly painted in the present Jaguar Gunmetal over Silver Mist, with interior trimmed in red Connolly hide and brushed Wilton carpet, and a new grey mohair hood with matching West of England cloth headlining. Fresh from restoration, the drophead was a Master Class winner as well as being voted Car of the Day at Jaguar Day in 2004. Current cosmetic and mechanical condition is described as mint. The Lucas lights are correct, of course, and the tool tray is full. As confirmed by two previous owners, it is claimed the 24,198 displayed on the speedo is believed by the vendor to be the genuine mileage for this drophead from new, this total being further endorsed by a 2 September 2003 dated inspection and valuation report among the documents. Also on file are a V5, old MoT's, the latest certificate only just issued and therefore being valid until June of next year, as well as a current historic vehicle eligible tax disc.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
