Sellers description:

1951 Jaguar MkV 3.5 DHC For Sale
£69,995
(approx. €81,894 or $102,053)

This wonderful motor car was manufactured on the 13th June 1951 and supplied new by Archibalds of Christchurch, New Zealand on the 23rd July 1951. We have the original import document stating the Jaguar arrived from New Zealand on the 11 November 1975 having made the long journey on an Australian vessel. On arrival in Buckinghamshire, the Jaguar was taken for MOT and UK registered for the first time. We have the original MOT certificate from 1975 and a consistent run of MOT certificates from 1993 suggests that the MK V had a speedometer change in 1996. From these records we can see the Jaguar MK V has covered 11,000 miles in the last fourteen years.

Correspondence in the history file shows the Jaguar actually remained off the road from 1975 until the early 1990's. During the 1990's, the MKV was subject of a bare shell rebuild with photographic record. The engine fully stripped down and subject of a full rebuild with photographs detailing the extent of the work. The inside of the car was fully re-trimmed and we have an invoice for this work in 1995 at a cost of over £4,000. The cost of the hood and some final interior improvements worked out at further £2500. More recently in 2008, the Jaguar had a further £11,000 spent on mechanical work that included a five speed gearbox conversion including new prop shaft, clutch drive plate, thrust bearing and speedometer cable.

Having had so much recent expenditure, the MK V Jaguar is a true pleasure to drive. The car performs exceptionally well on the road and is quite simply fabulous in all areas. The interior has nicely aged and is a true credit to the restorer. Bodywork, paint and chrome are all over a top class standard and finished off perfectly with an as new hood. Tools, history and Heritage Certificate are all present.

A truly wonderful motor car for the discerning buyer and collector.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
