Ebay item 5/14/08
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Opening bid $225,000 reserve not met, no bids yet, 9 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
his is an extremely rare 1948 Jaguar Mark IV 3 position drop head coupe. It has been restored to perfect original condition. It is probably the finest restored Mark IV in existence today. This car was built for the U.S. market and shipped new to Los Angeles. When I purchased the car much of it had been disassembled. Fortunately, it was stored in a warehouse so there was no rust. I had the car professionally restored and was completed in 2006. The car is in excellent original condition and runs perfectly.

- Comprehensive restoration by noted marque specialist - First Place, Primary Division, 2009 Spring Grand Classic Concours - One of 376 3.5-liter Mark IVs built for export - Offered with a large and complete tool tray - The first postwar Jaguar model and the first built with LHD
Jaguar met the immediate postwar market in 1945 with its trusty 1.5-, 2.5- and 3.5-liter sedans dating back to 1935. Britain's postwar "export or die" ethos spurred a concentrated effort to cultivate the burgeoning American market. Only six-cylinder models were officially sent to America, and these early postwar cars, retrospectively known as the "Mark IV," quickly gained a following, especially when they were first offered with left-hand drive during 1947.

This left-hand drive Mark IV DHC received a stunning restoration by Arizona's Barry Briskman, with expert maintenance since it was completed. In testament to its high quality, the Mark IV was awarded First Place, Primary Division at the Spring Grand Classic Concours in Scottsdale, Arizona in 2009. Beautifully finished in Deep Red with Burgundy fenders, the Mark IV is accented by chrome wire wheels, fog lamps, a black cloth top, and a tan interior with the seats and door panels smartly piped in red. Both the engine bay and interior are presented in show-quality condition, including a restored original Lucas battery. Offered today with very little road use since restoration, this CCCA Full Classic Mark IV DHC is detailed to perfection and complete with an impressive tool tray.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
